An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to work Dr Annie Park, who has received a Wellcome Trust Early Career Award, at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour on a project that is part of an ongoing investigation of determining the physiological and molecular basis of reward processing in fruit flies or Drosophila melanogaster.

The postholder will be responsible for the provision of research support for identifying physiological properties of dopamine neurons. The daily routine will mainly include immunohistochemistry of whole fly brains, learning and memory behavioural assays (T-maze), generating fly lines, and general fly stock maintenance. The post holder will also provide advice and guidance to research students where appropriate.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with prior wet lab experience and a general interest in neuroscience. This post also includes money for travel to one conference and a personal laptop for data analysis.

As a research post-holder, you will play a key role in advancing this research. Your responsibilities will include:

- Driving your own research and administrative activities
- Developing and adapting cutting-edge scientific techniques
- Collect imaging data using a confocal microscope
- Responsible for maintaining fly lines
- Perform learning and memory behavioural assays
- Determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise.
- Responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who holds a first degree along with relevant experience. You will:

- Have Sufficient knowledge about Neuroscience
- Have Sufficient knowledge about genetics
- Have the ability to manage own research and administrative activities independently
- Have prior experience of working in a wet laboratory
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences and represent the research group at meetings

The post is available immediately and will be based in the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
