**Independent Living Service Occupational Therapist - Grade J**

**About the role.**

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist within the Council’s Independent Living Service. The service provides aids and adaptations to help people to live independently at home for longer. The role will involve working with service users and carers to plan and implement services in accordance with assessed needs and risks, recommend and organise the provision of specialist equipment in homes and instruct service users, carers and care providers in its use, to provide specialist advice to other professionals, liaise with other agencies, prepare reports and make recommendations in relation to major adaptations and to assist in the training and supervision of support staff.

**You must have knowledge and experience of **
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant Adult Social Care, and Housing Legislation.
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation affecting the provision of specialist equipment and adaptations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the effects of disability on children, adults and older people and their carers.
- Working in a health or social care setting.
- Working with both children and adults.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good IT skills.
- Good assessment and problem-solving skills.
- An understanding of the complexity of rehabilitation and enablement.

**You must have the following qualifications.**
- BSc (Hons) Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
- Registered with Health and Care Professions (HCPC) and with British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT).
- Current UK driving Licence or means of mobility support.
