**Job summary**:
We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced phlebotomists to join our Phlebotomy team at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull Hospital of UHB NHS Foundation trust

An essential requirement of the post is an ability to work as part of a team without direct supervision and to deal with patients in a confidential, professional and sensitive manner. As a senior phlebotomist you will be expected to assist with the training, assessment and supervision of junior phlebotomy staff.

Some cross site cover will be required as part of training and service delivery needs as well as some work at external sites such as GP surgeries may be included.

Applications are welcome on a part (minimum of 16 hours) or full time basis.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The post holder will demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the phlebotomy manager or phlebotomy coordinator and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies.

The core hours are between 07:00 and 17:00 Monday-Friday. In addition weekend and bank holiday cover is by rotation.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Evidence of completion of a Health Related Education and Development programme/ Care Certificate
- Phlebotomy Training Course

**Desirable**:

- GCSE or equivalent to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Significant experience of recent working in an acute hospital / provider led healthcare environment as a Phlebotomist
- Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
- Experience of carrying out assigned duties after training and using initiative
- Competent in a range of clinical skills and practices relevant to the scope of practice required
- Understanding of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues
- Has knowledge in relation to the parameters and scope of practice in which the post holder should work and when to seek advice and support of others
- Willingness to take on new skills and develop scope of practice
