Perinatal Psychological Therapist

The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability. These are the 5Ps: Putting people first Prioritising quality Being progressive, innovative and working to continually improve patient care Being professional and honest Promoting what is possible independence, opportunity and choice This is a post for a recently qualified psychologist or psychotherapist who has demonstrated a passion for perinatal and parent infant mental health during their training.
The post-holder will have had experience working with perinatal cases during their training. This is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. The post will cover Waltham Forest. NELFT NHS Foundation Trust has a well-established Perinatal Parent Infant Mental Health Service (PPIMHS) which works across the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, and Waltham Forest.
PPIMHS recognizes that the perinatal period (conception to 2 years of age) is a critical time of development for an infant and a parent. It can also be a time of accentuated risk. A specialist clinical service that addresses the mental and emotional health of both the infant and parent requires specialist skills. The post holder must have clinical experience working with mentally/emotionally ill adults and a special interest in the impact parental mental illness can have on the developing parent-infant relationship.
The post holder will have clinical experience working the consequences of serious trauma in a parents life and be equipped to offer a range of evidence-based interventions to help the parent, and the parent-baby relationship, on their road to recovery. A guiding philosophy in PPIMHS is that the parent-baby relationship is a patient who needs to be at the centre of every clinical intervention. The post holder will be managed by the Perinatal Parent Infant Mental Health Operational Service Manager and supervised by the Consultant Perinatal Psychotherapist/Professional Psychological Lead. The postholder will have trained in one of the following disciplines: Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist Family/Systemic Psychotherapist.
In addition, the postholder will have specific skills to work with complex trauma (such as psychoanalytic parent-infant psychotherapy, EMDR, MBT for personality disorder, trauma focused approaches, specialist CBT. Key Responsibilities: To identify the clinical needs of the population of parents and babies referred to PPIMHS. To deliver high quality specialist clinical interventions via direct clinical work. To develop links with a wide range of primary care professionals such as midwives, health visitors, paediatric staff, GPs and childrens services and adult mental health and wellness teams.
To co-ordinate and manage a clinical caseload of complex cases where parental trauma is central. To be responsible for always working within the appropriate Child Protection, Adult Protection, Deliberate Self Harm, Substance Misuse guidelines. Clinical Skills To formulate and deliver treatment interventions for parental trauma, including trauma focused work, CBT, EMDR, family and/or couple work, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the presenting problems, and employing therapeutic methods based upon evidence of efficacy. To refer to other specialists as appropriate.
Computer/Administration To be computer literate and encourage implementation of the Trusts IM&T Strategy. To ensure accurate recording of actions, maintaining confidentiality at all times. To take part, and assist, in the planning and administration relating to day to day running of the teams. Communication To have a wide range of knowledge in approaches to communicating in order to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary service.

To be able to communicate complex information facilitating positive outcomes and ensuring collaborative working. To be able to effectively communicate with service users, carers and appropriate others in a sensitive manner.
