Health Care Assistant

To assist in patient care and practice related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following practice procedures and policies. Undertake record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training to deliver a high standard of patient care including: Venepuncture. INR monitoring ECG ABPM Home blood pressure monitoring Pulse rate and rhythm Height, weight and BMI Influenza vaccinations for over 65 years under PSD Data collection for care planning Foot checks for diabetic annual review Blood pressure Smoking status and advice Suture removal Health checks - promotion of self-care Urinalysis and sending of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.
Ensure all samples are correctly labelled and ready for dispatch to the laboratory at the appropriate time. It will be necessary to know how to use a manual and electronic test request system. Prepare and maintain the environment and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions. Give accurate and appropriate information to patients within your own competence.
Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being and how this can be promoted. NB This list is not exhaustive and other duties might be included as deemed appropriate by the practice and for which training has been provided and competency established.
