We have an exciting opportunity arising within the Housing Service. We are looking for an energetic, driven, and enthusiastic individual for the role of Senior Accommodation Assistant in Greyfriars House, Perth and Kinross Council’s direct access homeless hostel.

You will support the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator and Team Leader with delivering all aspects of the services provided at Greyfriars House.

You will report to the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator. The standard hours of work for this role are Monday to Friday from 8.45 to 5pm but due to the nature of the post, there will be an expectation that you will work flexibly
- this could include evenings and weekends especially for covering gaps in shifts at short notice and organising and attending residents’ meetings.

You will have a non-judgemental attitude, be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of staff, residents of the hostel, colleagues, and all other customers.

Ideally, you should have experience of supervising staff.

You will be someone who strives to achieve high standards and excellent results. You should be able to remain calm in a crisis and provide direction, support and guidance to staff who are dealing with difficult, complex, emergency or crisis situations.

You should be a highly organised and motivated individual who is enthusiastic, innovative and creative.

You should be able to communicate extremely effectively with staff, residents and colleagues to build positive relationships and to identify the key issues and come up with solutions for resolving these. You should be able to use a range of communication styles including negotiation skills to settle disputes and reach agreement.

You will be mindful of staff’s health and wellbeing, building individual employee’s and the team’s resilience.

You should be someone who uses a coaching style to help others to find their own solutions. You should have the ability to have difficult conversations and resolve issues at an early stage rather than allowing them to develop.

As this role will have its challenges, it is crucial that you will be resilient to deal with these and hurdles you may encounter, and that you have strength of character and are solution-focused to achieve the intended outcomes.

You should also have a good understanding of the work of the Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Social Services Council including the Codes of Practice and Health and Social Care.

You should have a good sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and ensure that this is factored into staff’s working practices and any dealings with customers.

Whilst not essential, it would be helpful if you were able to drive and hold a clean, current driving licence.

**Responsibilities**:
You will be responsible for supervising 8 Accommodation Assistants and the cleaner/handyperson on a day-to-day basis.

You will develop and update annual staff rotas. You will have oversight of the team’s workload and motivate and develop the team ensuring that they are knowledgeable, well-trained and well-supported by organising induction, ongoing training, providing supervisions and annual development discussions.

You will be expected to deal with a broad range of staffing matters from informal matters to supporting the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator to deal with those matters involving more formal action. This will also require you to work closely with colleagues in Human Resources developing good working relationships with them and following their advice and guidance.

You will have a visible presence in the Hostel in terms of managing staff and also interacting with residents. You will assist the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator to deal with any complaints from residents. You will also support staff and the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator in tackling any challenging behaviour from residents and exclusions from the Hostel.

You will work in collaboration, building excellent working relationships with a wide range of partners including colleagues from across Housing, from other internal Perth and Kinross Council teams and colleagues who are external to the organisation. You will work with them one-off pieces of work or on an ongoing basis working to achieve shared goals and common outcomes.

You will assist the Hostel and Support Co-ordinator to monitor a range of budgets, ensuring that these are well-managed. As a result, you should have a good understanding of financial matters.
