The Medicine CSG are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Clerical Assistant who will support the Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Diabetic Team, working 15 hours per week on a fixed term contract for 9 months.

The main purpose of this post will be to provide secretarial office duties such as transcribing medical correspondence, audio typing, undertake mail and filing duties, retrieving patients medical notes, managing patient pathways via WPAS, as well as handling queries from patients, relatives, carers and external partners on a regular day to day basis. The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent typing, communication, organisational, clerical and IT skills. They will need to be able to work using their own initiative while also working well as a team member.

It would be an advantage if the post holder was familiar with the NHS information systems and in particular WPAS (Myrddin). They will need to have a good understanding of the principles of Referral to Treatment. They will need to have a sound knowledge of a range of Microsoft office packages. An understanding of customer care and meeting the needs of the general public is necessary for this position, therefore an excellent telephone and communication manner will need to be demonstrated.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will provide administrative and clerical support to all specialties and the Medicine CSG where they will be required to undertake a range of duties, under the supervision of the administration manager, contributing to the efficient and effective running of these.

The post holder must be able to work under their own initiative, prioritise own workload and take advice and direction from others as duties will include typing of letters, mail, faxing, filing of test results, data entry, retrieving and returning patient case notes to file.

The post holder will also receive messages for individual staff members, passing on any information in an accurate and timely manner. Respond to telephone queries, directing calls appropriately when required.

The post holder will need to be competent in the use of IT systems such as Myrddin, WCP, RadIS and other patient information systems relevant to specific specialised departments.
