The Vascular Access Associate Practitioner will support clinically and administratively the Vascular Access Team in the provision and delivery of a comprehensive Vascular Access Service to The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

Clinical tasks to be undertaken by the Vascular Access Associate Practitioner’s will be specific to the clinical area and both the Associate Practitioner and the Lead Vascular Access Nurse are responsible for ensuring competency.

Clinical Responsibility

These responsibilities will be carried out under the guidance of the Vascular Access Nurses
- Ensure referrals made for Vascular Access follow the correct pathway in an effective and timely manner considering clinical need and urgency.
- Liaise with members of the multi-professional team in order to deliver a timely and appropriate Vascular Access service.
- Answering telephones and dealing with enquiries and/or taking messages.
- Assist in the preparation of clinical equipment/ clinical unit set up in order to assist the Vascular Access nursing team.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all patient details are checked on the patient’s arrival and updated on the system (i.e. ethnic, GP, demographic and copying of letters)
- Direct/escort patients to appropriate clinical areas when required.
- Assist with the monitoring and recovery of patients as delegated by the Vascular Access nursing team.
- Contribute to the save moving and handling of patients.
- Transferring laboratory specimens to laboratory.

Education and Development Responsibility
- Identify the boundaries of the Associate Practitioner role and work within these limitations.
- Identify personal and learning requirements to determine a personal developmental plan.
- Undertake regular mandatory training in accordance with trust policy.
- Work as part of a team and be sensitive to others and their personal believes and preferences.

Communication and Working Relationships
- Work as a member of the Vascular Access Team.
- Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff
- Assist with any local or trust initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care.

- Adapt communication methods when working with people who may have communication difficulties
