**Job Title**: Intelligence Researcher

**Salary**: £28,511 to £30,504 plus a £1,721 Location Allowance and 12.5% Shift allowance dependant on Location. You will receive £28,511 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £30,504 will be via incremental progression.

Working as an Intelligence Researcher in Met Ops 2 (MO2),**_ _**also known as Met Intelligence, you will be at the forefront of the unique challenge of policing London. As a member of one of our investigative/operational research and analysis teams, you will assist in identifying connections in information and develop intelligence to help tackle crime.**_ _**

**Duties and responsibilities**

Your primary role will be to provide research support to the Intelligence Analysts by assisting in the collation of intelligence and evidence regarding crimes and criminals. You will do this by articulating identified crime problems in terms of who, what, where, when and how, in order for the analyst to identify the why. You will also conduct research in relation to intelligence development, utilising internal and external police force databases and when appropriate initiating enquiries with partnership and other external agencies or businesses.

**Key Tasks**

What does the average day look like? Your core duties will include:

- Assisting with identifying crime trends, series and offenders of note by scanning information from a number of sources and databases and presenting key findings verbally and in written form.
- Supporting intelligence analysts in understanding crime problems through research of information systems to identify potential drivers, locations and people of note.
- Researching various information sources and providing summaries of people involved in offending to support investigations.
- Assisting analysts in the compilation of any standard products such as tasking products.
- Working closely with colleagues in other departments to obtain information to inform research and analytical products.
- Completing basic mapping of crime to identify hotspots or locations of interest.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of working in a similar environment would be desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided
- Understanding of relevant legislation, corporate IT systems and policies appropriate to role and their use (including Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and Management of Police Information)
- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model
- Familiarity with the practice of intelligence gathering and understanding of associated techniques, legislation and codes of practice
- Proven experience of using research and intelligence gathering skills
