As Communications and Engagement Specialist for Future Hospital, you will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating communications and engagement to support delivery of the Future Hospital programme across a range of channels using mixed formats, including great written text, images, videos and audio podcasts.
This will involve ensuring that staff, stakeholders and the wider public:

- are well informed
- understand how the programme links with our strategy and vision and delivers against the health and care needs of our population
- have opportunities to engage and contribute to ensuring our plans benefit our communities.

Working closely with the Future Hospital programme team, you will map and build mutually beneficial relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. You will use specialist skills in analysing audiences and listening to gain insight into what stakeholders want in two-way communications. You will use this insight to engage with staff and key stakeholders.

You will support the Communications Team Leader to ensure alignment between corporate and programme communications and engagement and the provision of high quality, professional communications
services to successfully engage internal and external stakeholder groups.

As a skilled and qualified communications professional, you will be committed to best practice in communications and undertake continuous Professional Development in the field.

The Communications Specialist is a role within the Communications and Engagement Team.

**The teamworks to the following strategic objectives**:
1. Support two-way communications with patients, families and carers.
2. Support two-way communications with staff.
3. Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with all other key stakeholders.

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**

Examples of the breadth of the work undertaken by the Communications and Engagement Team, under each of these workstreams, is outlined below.

**Supporting communications with patients includes**:

- Creating standardised information boards used on every ward and in every patient bay.
- Managing patient and visitor screens.
- Managing the Trust’s website and associated online presence.
- Creating, reviewing and revising a range of information aimed at patients and visitors including videos, patient letters, notifications, targeted leaflets and posters.
- Undertaking campaigns to raise awareness and change behaviour in line with the Trust’s objectives, such as #letsbeopen and safety campaigns
- Running large events such as trust-wide Open Days

**Supporting communications with staff includes**:

- Working with more than 10,000 staff and volunteers to ensure two-way communications channels are in place and effective. This includes producing a daily bulletin, a popular staff magazine, screensavers, specialist bulletins, announcements, posters; staff facebook group, staff app and running an intranet/extranet.
- The Communications Team also runs specialist professional campaigns such as the annual flu awareness campaign and major events such annual awards
- Training and upskilling staff to use communications, including social media, to support their personal professional profile and business objectives.

Maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders includes:

- Liaising with elected representatives including local councillors, MPs and Ministers.
- Leading on all major openings and events.
- Leading on Trust-wide consultation exercises.
- Connecting with thousands of stakeholders using our four main social media channels - Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
- Dealing with hundreds of media calls per year. The department is the official voice of the Trust and provides support and training in talking to the media to all staff. Members of the Team consistently

generate one of the highest levels of media coverage in the south west region, with a long-term average of positive coverage.
- Advising the Trust Board, Senior Management Team and all staff and volunteers on issues that impact on how the Trust and confidence in the healthcare provided by the Trust is perceived.
- Overseeing the quality of responses to several hundred Freedom of Information requests per year.
- Producing corporate documents such as the Annual Report and Trust Strategy.

You will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of high quality, creative and innovative communications and engagement campaigns and materials for Future Hospital and other major developments, ensuring the team’s work is aligned with corporate communications activity.
