Cambridge, United Kingdom Wellcome Sanger Institute Full time

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity's greatest challenges.

**About the role**

You will be joining the Partnership, Engagement and Growth Team (PEG) who collectively are responsible for a large and complex portfolio of partnerships that aim to build in-country surveillance and research capacity and a strong collaborative genomics and global health community. Our team, which sits within the Wellcome Sanger Institute's Genomic Surveillance Unit (GSU), is dedicated to translating genomic data into actionable insights for partners, health organisations, and national malaria control programs worldwide.

The PEG team works across communications, training, and partner and community engagement.

The Partner Engagement Assistant will work across all the communications, training and community engagement elements of the PEG team with a primary focus on supporting the MalariaGEN network of partners who are embedding malaria genomics into national malaria control programs and global health policy. This requires developing strong trust relationships with research scientists working in malaria-endemic countries and working across our internal teams to ensure that you can support partners to engage with MalariaGEN and to utilise data and tools.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- Facilitate existing and potential genomic surveillance partners to engage with us and collaborate with each other by providing administrative, logistical and organisational support.
- Build professional relationships with MalariaGEN partners and other external key stakeholders. This may include international travel to meetings or conferences.
- Act as a key point of contact for MalariaGEN, working with members across PEG and more broadly to respond to partners and external data users' queries.
- Liaise across multiple functions, particularly with members of the Genomic Surveillance Service Delivery Team and Surveillance Leads, to collectively and collaboratively manage all aspects of partner development and engagement.

We place a high value on work-life balance and are dedicated to supporting our team members with family-friendly policies and benefits, including flexible working arrangements. We welcome full- and part-time applicants for this role.

**About you**
- Strong communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with diverse stakeholder group.
- High level of organisational ability, highly focused, able to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
- Previous experience of interrogating scientific literature and tracking the information over time.
- Attention to detail.
- An interest and a willingness to develop knowledge in global public health, translational science and malaria.
- Willingness to work across multiple different procedures/processes and activities at various levels.

Ideally, you would also possess some of the following:

- Previous experience of working in a science or public health programme or equivalent environment.
- Ability to travel internationally occasionally - up to 2-3 trips per year

**About us**

Malaria is a major global health problem, and to eliminate it, we need to come up with better ways of fighting the current waves of drug resistance, as well as methods for tracking forms of resistance that will inevitably emerge as we deploy new tools to control the disease.

**Additional information**

**Salary**: £29,900 - £35,800

**Closing Date**: Sunday 05-NOV-23

**Working at Wellcome Sanger**:
Our flexible-hybrid working environment is designed to support a healthy work-life balance. This means you can work flexibly with a combination of working from home, and working from our Campus to allow you to focus on being productive and part of the team while enjoying the benefits of working flexibly.
