For over 160 years, our highly skilled Engineer Surveyors and Engineering Consultants have inspected, tested and reported on industrial machinery from passenger lifts and escalators, to MEWP’s, forklift trucks and cranes in order to keep the industry, businesses and public safe. As a Unit Leader with the BES Group, you will inspire and lead a field-based team of Engineer Surveyors who are experts in their discipline. You will support and guide your team in their day-to-day role which involves providing high-quality inspections for a variety of customers and industries.
Unit Leaders are also a key interface with our customers, and you will be responsible for operational and joint relationship support for a panel of customers. You will be required to build strong customer relationships, drive Service Excellence, provide links for customers to the wider organisation (e.g., planning, technical support) and identify and develop business opportunities, including new business and retention.
To be considered for this role you will live in the **Aberdeen, Dundee or surrounding areas.**
**What will I be doing?**
In its simplest and most explicit form, industrial safety can be a matter of life or death. The Unit Leader is a varied role, with a focus on leadership, performance, safety and customers alongside the key responsibilities which include forecasting, conflict resolution, systems management, reporting, and day to day management of a team.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring a culture where Health and Safety is the number one priority for the team.
- Providing day to day leadership to ensure the team is motivated, capable and operating with a customer centric mindset.
- Managing the performance and development of the team via agreed measures to ensure delivery against business targets and our customer service proposition.
- Identify and develop team talent for long-term careers within the organisation.
- Completing accompanied days with all team members
- Ensuring that work is resourced efficiently and effectively
- Supporting recruitment across the Engineer Surveyor workforce
- Identifying and implementing improvements in commercial performance, operating efficiency, people capability and outstanding customer focus
- Building the commercial reputation of the Unit you lead and business
- Administrative tasks such as signing off time sheets and expenses
- Welcoming customer feedback and resolving customer issues and complaints
- Building strong customer relationships across a designated panel linking customers to the BES Group and its processes.
- Identifying areas to support customer retention and develop business opportunities with clients.
- Always providing an exceptional level of customer service, whilst representing our brilliant company professionally

**What experience do I need?**
Our team consists of the best, highly skilled and qualified Engineer Surveyors and we want our new recruits to have the same attitude, aptitude and appetite for what we do.
Ideal experience includes:
- Being IOSH or NEBOSH qualified (Ideal not essential)
- An engineering background (Ideal not essential)
- Offer significant experience leading and managing field-based teams
- Being organised, with experience managing scheduling and budgets
- Seeing a problem as an opportunity and welcome use of your analytical skills to aid your decisions
- Having a passion for seeing people develop, and ideally hold previous experience managing a field-based team will highlight this
- Displaying strong communication, relationship-building
