Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer to be responsible for providing support for grant management and audits for Academic and Research staff in the Department. The job will also entail providing particular administrative support for one of our large research groups, including their conference, workshops, and travel requirements. The post-holder will work closely with the Department’s senior academic and administrative staff including the Head of Department and Department Operations Manager.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
This is a busy and varied post which requires a person who can multi-task and work to deadlines. The post involves a high level of interaction with staff of all levels and the post-holder must combine a professional approach with a friendly and welcoming manner.

Responsibilities include:

- Preparation of audit reports and account reconciliations ensuring compliance in research grant awards and with sponsors’ terms and conditions.
- Monitoring of grant claims to ensure compliance.
- Responding to queries from grant and contract holders, including responding to re-budgeting requests, responsibility for expenditure and budget limits, and dealing with budget reallocation.
- To assist and help the Academic staff with audits and where necessary other post award support.
- Provide training sessions for new academic and research staff on College Oracle systems to include My Expenses, and travel provider sites.
- To coordinate and distribute financial reports.
- To assist with timesheet completion for research projects.
- Processing expense and travel claims for the Group and preparation of purchasing orders.
- Seminar workshop and conference organisation.

**Essential requirements**:

- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) or a comparable professional standard.
- Experience of working in higher education in a similar role and an understanding of research grant funding.
- Experience of records management including handling confidential information and experience of organising and managing events.
- Working effectively as part of a team, and able to manage a high volume of diverse tasks, be self-motivated and work to strict deadlines, and have the confidence to deal with all levels of staff.
- Strong IT and numerical skills and a knowledge of Oracle systems.
