Take the Carrick Yard housing development in Luton Street. When a big international building firm couldn’t find a sales partner, we stepped in to create a joint venture partnership and underwrite any unsold units to protect our investment. Then when we felt a big banking partner would be overcharging the venture for financing the development, we decided to finance it ourselves. The result? 171 homes are now under construction, leading the redevelopment of the Church Street area, whilst the council is projecting a potential return on investment of almost 14% - far in excess of anything that can be achieved on cash deposits in current market conditions.

And why does this success matter? Because it allows us to invest even more in public services that are the lifeblood of our communities.

**The Role**:
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you can make your own powerful contribution. You’ll provide targeted, professional advice to the Corporate Leadership Team, focusing on the development, implementation and monitoring of a programme of service health and safety risk assessments. You’ll support managers to implement health and safety legislation within their teams, minimising risk and educating colleagues on the benefits of effective health and safety performance.

Managing and updating the Fire Warden database and Accidents Management System, you’ll maintain high levels of accuracy in order to keep data up to date. You’ll investigate serious accidents or dangerous occurrences, and inspect corporate buildings to ensure that the Council is providing a safe and healthy working environment.

**About You**:
An established professional with substantial experience of working in a Health and Safety role in a large, complex public sector organisation, you’ll have excellent technical knowledge of health and safety matters. You’ll be a natural communicator, capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues across all levels of the Council and beyond, and of maintaining sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy in any and all situations.

On a personal level, you’ll be calm in a crisis, logical and proactive, and have good negociation, persuasion, and influencing skills. Most importantly, you’ll be a person passionate about ensuring everyone who works at the Council has access to a safe, secure workplace.
