Kitchen Assistant

Hours: 37 hours per week (worked flexible five days from seven as required by Rossie and as detailed on a published rota)
**Salary**: £23,288
**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible to the Chef Manager and Chefs by providing a consistently high standard of service in all areas associated with food service and cleansing standards.
**To maintain kitchen standards as determined by the Chef Manager or Chefs while following cleansing standards which are in place**
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of food for young people for up to three meals each day
- Assist with catering for staff, the Board of Governors and visitors to the campus as and when required
**To assist in the compilation and delivery of balanced and varied menus to required standards**
- Help ascertain views of the young people regarding the food provided to them
- Assist in the provision of food for those with special dietary requirements
- Assist the Chef Manager to prepare and provide consistently high standards of food provision to young people and staff
**To maintain effective control of food related stock and other materials for kitchen use**
- Take primary responsibility for ensuring that adequate systems and records are maintained to ensure appropriate stock levels at all times
- Maintain effective systems guarding against waste
- Organise the food store, fridges, freezers etc. to assist with stock control measures and the appropriate timetabled use of stock
**To assist in the full compliance with hygiene, health and safety and related regulations**
- Assist the Chef Manager to maintain safe and hygienic practices in all food areas
- At all times ensure that health and safety and hygiene regulations are complied with
- Assist in advising and instructing colleagues on hygiene and health and safety matters
- Ensure highest personal standards of hygiene and presentation at all times
**To assist in the maintenance of equipment in the kitchen, store and related areas to high levels of hygiene and safety**
- Treat all Rossie equipment with care
- Regularly check all kitchen and food preparation equipment and to maintain it in a safe and clean condition fit for use
- Set up and maintain programmes of regular maintenance e.g. defrosting freezers etc

- Current Secondary qualifications

- Intermediate Food Hygiene
**Experience (Essential)**:
- Commercial catering environments - Hotel / Restaurant / School / Cafe
- Food handling experience
- Commercial catering cleaning experience
- Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Office 365, SharePoint
**Skills (Essential)**:
- Ability to work on own and as part of team
- Ability to use own initiative and experience
**Qualities (Essential)**:
- Good physical health
- Articulate
