Job overview

We are looking for a Deputy Team Leader who can maintain the core values required to provide high visible presence in the clinical area ensuring Trust values and behaviours, theatre etiquette, training, policies and procedures are appropriately followed by leading by example and speaking up.

You will need to motivate the team, and provide a positive influence to improve theatre efficiency and ensure patients receive a high quality of safe and efficient care.

Main duties of the job

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to use own initiative is essential along with effective planning and organisation of your time and the ability to work under pressure.

You will also be able to demonstrate that you have had previous experience of leading change previously and have a good track record of delivering initiatives and new ways of working.

You must have considerable experience within the recovery aspects with the operating department and sound clinical knowledge within the area of emergency surgery and the required clinical skills to work closely with the existing team structure, ideally at a minimum of 3 years at Band 5 level. You should hold a recognised mentor qualification and be able to demonstrate evidence of teaching and clinical supervision within the clinical setting.

Working for our organisation

You must be a qualified nurse with current NMC registration or a qualified ODP with current HCPC registration. You must have previous operating theatre experience.

You will work 150 hours per month worked flexibly over a four week rota, working primarily 11.5 hour shifts with the occasional 8-2 and 2-8 shifts. These will also include on calls, weekends, nights, Bank Holidays and out of hours shifts to provide an effective service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To support staff, ensuring the provision of high quality patient care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with Directorate and Hospital policies and procedures

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration or HPC registration part 1
- Evidence of continuing professional development and recent study relevant to theatres/recovery
- A Teaching/assessing/leadership qualification
- Mentorship qualification

Desirable criteria
- Junior/Supervisory management course
- Level 3 mentor qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
- 2 years’ experience in a high acuity setting
- Competent in complex clinical skills
- Evidence of ability to mage unstable patients (AIMS/ Acute care skills or equivalent)

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Can effectively use a variety of communication skills
- Able to use power point, word and excel to produce documents and presentations

Desirable criteria
- Can present a mixture of information from a variety of sources.
