**Location**: Field based to work in tandem with our Regional Advisor North within our portfolio.
**Salary**: Up to £32K

**Purpose of the role**:
The Health and Safety Advisor will be a champion and an advocate for fire safety and health of safety across our properties and within our offices. As part of your role, you will assist in ensuring that Homes for Students adheres to their and discharges legal requirements/duties under fire safety and the health and safety legislation.
The Health and Safety Advisor will assist the National Health and Safety Manager to ensure that in-house policies and procedures are in line with current legislation, best practice and will assist in enforcing fire safety and health and safety legislation in all aspects and levels within the business. In addition, you will assist and support our operational teams and the Asset Management team in the provision of guidance on health and safety, fire safety matters and with any queries that may arise, including compliance related projects using 3rd party contractors.
Our objective and goal is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, students is at the for front of our minds and to ensure that all our legal requirements under legislation is met and maintained to a high standard.
As the Health and Safety Advisors you will be pro-active, self-motivated, confident, be able to act on your own initiative and liaise with the internal and external -stakeholders. As part of the role of the Health and Safety Advisor you will be undertaking visits across Homes for Students portfolio and offices and attend team meetings where required.
**Responsibilities**:
Health and Safety:
- A good level of understanding and working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and experience in acting as a competent person.
- Support the competent person as required by Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, providing advice and guidance to Management.
- Building effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with the identification and interpretation of Health and Safety Legislation, Codes of Practice and the provision of appropriate advice on best practice, safe systems of work, processes, equipment and training needs.
- To support the revision and/or creation of standards, procedures and assist in their effective implementation.
- Promoting all health and safety policies and procedures to develop a proactive culture across Homes for Students.
- The preparation of monthly report and undertake data analysis to collate and identify trends/themes which in turn will be used to implement safe systems of works and/or SOP’s.
- Pro-actively seek out information from both internal and external sources in order to research general queries and/or policy development
- Support colleagues, team members, the Asset Management team and specifically the National Health and Safety Manager to discharge their specific fire safety and health and safety responsibilities.
- Undertake where required accident/incident and near miss investigations, in addition you will support in the compliance of RIDDOR requirements where required.
- Support and assist in the monitoring of Health and Safety performance within Homes for Students via, workplace inspections, in house health and safety auditing and ensuring that deficiencies and remedial actions identified within fire risk assessments and health and safety audits are being recorded on our CAFM system and that our property teams are actively completing them within the time scales given.
- Support the monitoring of health and safety of contractors and sub-contractors in liaison with the Asset Manager.
- Involvement in the reviewing and/or production of risk assessments, the implementation and review of safe systems of work with specific attention given to external contractor RAMS to ensure that they are suitable and sufficient for the task to be undertaken.
- Ensure that any unsafe act, condition, or situation which in your judgement could compromise the business is immediately escalated to the National Health and Safety Manager.
- Assist the National Health and Safety Manager in providing monthly health & safety performance reports at the team meetings and at the request of the Senior Management Team.
