**Home School Liaison Attendance Officer**

Fixed Term, Part Time

Up to £30,274 per annum

**Please note that this role is being offered as a 2-year Fixed Term contract and will be 3 days per week (0.6 FTE).**

Essex County Council has embarked upon a programme of change for provision and services with the ambition to profoundly improve the outcomes and life experience of CYP and young people.

The Home School Liaison Attendance Officer is a member of the LA School Effectiveness Attendance team who works to make sure that particular children achieve their full potential at school by achieving and maintaining excellent attendance.

The role is to work with children, families and schools that have been identified to them. The Home School Liaison Attendance Officer will work with CYP and their families, where appropriate, to provide school and parental/ carer support, with identified schools, to improve the sustainable attendance of identified CYP.

**Accountabilities**:

- Support the partnership between educational setting staff, families and other stakeholders, to promote shared understanding of the aspirations, needs, outcomes and required provision for CYP to improve attendance.
- Support CYP, families and professionals, as part of a multi
- disciplinary team, to support sustainable improved school attendance, resilience and the dialogue essential to the success of CYP educational placements and outcomes.
- To monitor and improve attendance and punctuality of identified CYP including identification of support and taking actions to decrease the number of CYP with persistent absence across identified schools.
- To help overcome barriers to learning outside the school in order to ensure consistently good attendance & punctuality and improve the outcomes of vulnerable CYP.
- To monitor, keep statistics, record, report and evaluate the implementation of all plans to improve attendance and punctuality across identified schools.
- To develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the families of the identified school community, particularly those who are difficult to engage and whose CYP have poor attendance.
- To work closely with key members of staff to ensure that the needs of the CYP are met, including contributing to policies and practices that will promote inclusion and engagement. To participate in professional networks, share best practice and attend any training, as required.
- To have full knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, organisations and individuals that could provide extra support for CYP and recommend referrals, as appropriate.
- To promote the safeguarding of CYP using the agreed procedures for identification, responding to disclosure and reporting to the relevant lead professional. To promote inclusion and equality of opportunity for all CYP in accordance with the Local Authority policy.
- To carry out duties in accordance with health and safety legislations and the Local Authority’s policies.
- To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post. Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

**Skills, Knowledge, and Experience**:

- ** **Educated to A level or equivalent by experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development with knowledge in relevant professional area.
- Have significant experience of working successfully with children/families in a school and/or home setting.
- Significant experience of working effectively in partnership with families in a helping role and other professionals in a multi-agency environment.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with an understanding of how to facilitate and mediate in situations which are perceived as challenging.
- Evidence of ability to develop skills, knowledge, and experience within role, including a willingness to chair/facilitate meetings and plan/deliver training to small groups of adults.
