**Lads Need Dads CIC is a Queens Award Winning Not-For-Profit Community Interest Company which seeks to equip, engage and inspire boys and young men ages 10-18 with absent fathers or limited access to a positive male role model, to enable them to reach their full potential.**

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, experienced in working with and supporting young people with a genuine passion to make a positive difference in the lives of young men. You will support Lads Need Dads Mission and have the skills and experience to help equip and empower young men to be the best that they can be.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual who has a background in working with young people, families, schools, the voluntary and statutory sector and the local community, and a passion for supporting boys lacking positive male role models within a small, but high-profile organisation.

As a Lads Need Dads Youth Support Facilitator you will guide and support our young men in their personal, social and educational development to help them reach their full potential.

You will assist the Programme Manager with organising, developing and delivering programmes and activities aimed at boys aged between 11 and 18 across our Tendring sites. Through these activities you’ll help boys build their confidence, self-esteem, resilience, motivation and life skills so that they can make a successful transition to adulthood.

You will provide one to one support sessions in school and in the community, as and when required.

**Salary**: £29,250 pro rata (plus 3% employer pension contribution)

**Contract length**: One year

**Key Responsibilities**

As a youth support Facilitator, you will be expected to:

- Provide one to one support in school settings and in the community
- Assist with the setting up and delivery of group-work programmes and sporting activities
- Develop a relationship with young people based on respect and trust
- Mentor, coach and support individuals, setting goals where necessary
- Work in partnership with families and other key people in the young person's life, as well as with professionals from other organisations involved with young people, in order to build a strong support network
- Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and local policy developments
- Undertake administrative tasks, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries
- Successfully interact with mentees who can exhibit a wide range of needs
- Refer cases to the Programme Manager when mentees appear to present with any high-risk issues or behaviours
- Assist, support and encourage mentees appropriately to achieve successful outcomes from their attendance on the Programme.
- Ensure the safeguarding of young people
- Ensure that comprehensive records are maintained through accurate and timely recording of interventions
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a non-discriminatory way in accordance with Lads Need Dads policies on equality of treatment and opportunity
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Lads Need Dads Health & Safety Policies and procedures.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications and experience**:

- Three or more years of experience in youth development in community organisations
- Level 3 in Youth Work Practice (or equivalent experience, related qualification)
- Experience of mentoring and / or counselling, vulnerable young people
- Experience of running and facilitating groupwork programmes
- Experience of working with a wide range of partner agencies / stakeholders
- Level 2 or above in Safeguarding children
- Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the impact of absent fathers on boys and support the Mission and objectives of Lads Need Dads
- Knowledge about policies and procedures including those related to safeguarding, and equality and diversity
- An in depth understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people
- Experience of working with young people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s)
- An understanding of local and national issues affecting children and young people
- Knowledge of the legal framework for working with children & families
- Full clean driving license

**Skills and Abilities**
- Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative
- Able to use relevant information systems and technology effectively
- Exceptionally strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate understanding of the issues facing the service user group
- Demonstrate understanding of safeguarding issues
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Experience of delivering and organising sporting activities an advantage
- Counselling qualification and experience desirable
