Environment and Sustainability Outreach Officer

**Hours**: 21 hours per weekSalary: £30,000 per annum pro rata (£18,000 actual)
Duties
The Church of England has set an ambitious target to become net-zero by 2030, bringing forward
its original proposed target of 2045 by fifteen years.
We are very proud that the amendment was initially driven by the Diocese of Bristol and as such
we are enthused to progress our commitment at pace.
This is a new role to support the Environment and Sustainability Manager in achieving the net
zero target and work programme for the Diocese, by rolling out support for parishes.
**In brief it can be summarised as follows**:
Engage churches, schools and parishes in developing and delivering their own net zero plan
with assistance from the Diocese net zero plan template
Handhold churches schools and parishes with gaining funding and then installing
decarbonisation measures
Deliver regular communications to churches, schools and parishes to enable sustainable
change, share information and learning, build capacity and collect data
Promote the Eco Church and Eco Champions networks to increase uptake and use these as
drivers for change
Provide guidance and resources for clergy and lay leaders to help parishes and communities
engage in creation care.
The Organisation
The Diocese of Bristol is the administrative area of the Church of England that covers Bristol
and Swindon. There are more than 200 churches in the Diocese, led by hundreds of clergy, and
around 15,000 children and young people attend our 72 church schools. So, in many ways the best
description is that it is the Diocese is a family of the 30,000 or so Clergy, Staff, Parish
Officers and Church attenders who work together with a common goal.
This is an exciting time within the Diocese as we are collaboratively shaping a new vision and
set of priorities for the coming years in a process called Transforming
Church. Together. We want to understand what we do well, what we can change
for the better and how to create a positive way forward together.
**Desired Skills and Experience**:
Experience of working in or supporting environmental advocacy
Fundraising and bid writing
Knowledge of retrofit and decarbonisation in housing and the built environment
Excellent communication and engagement skills
