**Information Governance and Data Protection Officer**

I am working with a Public Sector Organisation based in Barnet who are looking for an Information Governance and Data Protection Officer for 3 Months Initially.

The role is full time, to start ASAP and paying up to £250 Umbrella per day. The role is in scope of IR35.

**Job Purpose**
- Act as a lead for Data Protection (and related privacy legislation), both Adults and Health Directorate at London Borough of Barnet and To provide strategic leadership to Adults and Communities in the management of its documents and records.
- The role of the Information Governance Officer is to ensure the directorate is compliant with LBB policy and all legislation and government directives relating to Information Rights and Responsibilities (principally, the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI), Confidentiality Code of Practice and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004) (EIR).
- The primary role of the post holder is to support the overall development, management and delivery of Information Governance Strategy and work programme and to assist the Head of Performance and Systems along with Caldicott Guardian and Information Governance Sub-Groups.
- To provide support on issues related to Data Protection and maintenance of the LBB Data Protection Registration.
- Assisting the Head Performance and Systems, ensuring that all staff are aware and understand their responsibilities in respect of Data Protection and the confidentiality of person identifiable data.
- To co-ordinate, publicise and monitor standards of information handling throughout the directorate. The post holder will responsible for answering first line enquiries and provide advice, guidance and interpretation on matters relating to Information Governance working alongside corporate IMT.
- To be a key member of the Delivery Unit's Information Management Governance Group (IMGG)

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Administer the Information Governance (IG) Toolkit, including monitoring and co-ordination of activities to support it and the development and maintenance of improvement /action plans.
- Co-ordinate the work of Data Protection & Confidentiality, Information Security, Records Management & Data Quality.
- Assist in providing reports to the IMGG and IMT. Liaise, where required, with LBB managers with IG responsibilities.
- To promote the use of appropriate levels of information sharing agreements. Act as a specialist adviser to various members or organisation in Adult and Health Delivery unit.
- To work to promote risk awareness and a culture of openness throughout the Adults and Health so that IG is an integral part of daily work.
- To deputise and act as lead expert on all aspects of IG in the absence of the Head of Performance and Systems and Caldicott guardian, ensuring the directorate is compliant under current legislation.
- To respond to staff, clients and other professional bodies, on all issues relating to DPA, FOI and other relevant legislation.
- Be the Adults and Health records management expert providing strategic guidance for records management function.

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Either: relevant degree or equivalent by experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Either: professional qualification in information management, or evidence of continued study in the areas of records or information management.
- Desirable Data Protection or Freedom of Information professional qualification (ISEB)
- Knowledge and understanding in the principles of the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, NHS Code of Confidentiality, EIR and other IG legislation. Knowledge of Caldicott Principles, Patient Confidentiality, Information Security, Records Management, Information Sharing, NHSLA
- Experience of development and delivery of training programmes to multi-disciplinary audiences.
- Ability to work to agreed timescales. Experience in dealing with complex and confidential issues
- Competent user of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and Power point
