Established in April 2016, the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) delivers nuclear capability to deter threats and protect our nation.

The DNO oversees all defence nuclear business (excluding operations) and is responsible for providing nuclear deterrence; sponsoring the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (all the organisations, programmes and people that sustain the UK’s nuclear deterrent); and advising on UK nuclear policy, planning and international co-operation on nuclear matters.

The UK’s independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years to deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life, and that of our NATO Allies. To ensure that we have a credible and capable nuclear deterrent for as long as the security situation requires, we are building four new nuclear armed submarines - known as the Dreadnought Class - and replacing our nuclear warheads. These renewal programmes will utilise world-leading technology and are a showcase in science and engineering, highlighting the prowess of British industry.

This post sits in the DNO’s Warhead Group which has staff based in MOD Main Building, MOD Abbey Wood (Bristol), Aldermaston (Reading), HM Naval Base Clyde (Scotland). This post will be based at Abbey Wood, Bristol or AWE Aldermaston or Burghfield.

Within the Warhead Group, Trident Re-Entry System Engineering Change Assistant Head (TRES Eng Change AH) sits at the heart of the Stockpile Management team where we have the responsibility for maintaining safe, effective and available nuclear warheads now and in the future.

This post is on the MOD Civilian Nuclear Post Control List (PCL) and may attract the Nuclear Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA). This is a discretionary allowance. The post being listed on the PCL does not mean that the post holder will have an automatic entitlement to receive the RRA. The NSQEP RRA is not a contractual allowance and can be amended or withdrawn without notice in line with MOD Main and Submarine Delivery Agency policy.

**Job description**:
As the TRES Eng Change AH, you will be responsible for sanctioning, co-ordinating, and reviewing changes to the warhead design and operations, leading a team of 12 engineers. Technical change is a constant requirement in the programme to ensure a functional, manufacturable, supportable weapon system and this post has a broad portfolio or work across the warhead lifecycle. You will also lead technical interactions with our U.S. partners to evaluate change proposals.

The TRES Eng Change AH is accountable to the Chief Engineer for the successful prioritisation, assessment, and execution of modifications to the design of the warhead, its support equipment, and operational aspects to ensure design intent is sustained.

You will provide an important leadership function for the Warhead Stockpile Management (WSM) team supporting our people to execute the programme.

Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this post but will need regular workplace attendance (typically 4 days per week minimum) due to security constraints.

This role requires weekly domestic travel (particularly between Bristol and Reading) and up to three weeks per year in the United States.
