The Bed Management team is one of the four teams that make up Urgent Care at Forward Thinking Birmingham. We have the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (Adults and CAMHS team both based at Parkview Clinic), Psychiatric Liaison Team (based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital), Place of Safety/Psychiatric Decision Unit (based at the Oleaster) and finally the Bed Management Team.

The Bed Management Team finds beds for young people aged 18-25 that need an inpatient admission across Birmingham. We get referrals for beds from our Home Treatment Team, other FTB Community Teams, Psychiatric Liaison Teams when YP present in hospital, and also from inpatients hospitals where a transfer is needed

The support worker will call providers to check bed availability and to update the bed state which is on a live SharePoint document.

To assist qualified nurses in the completion of referral forms for inpatient admissions and to follow up outcomes.

To chase up wards for clinical information for step down/step up/repatriation requests at direction of the bed manager.

Answer phone calls and provide information to divert call from bed managers (providing updates about patients, accepting referrals etc.) NB it is policy not to talk to patients/families.

Chase clinical information for referrals for beds from Psychiatric Liaison Teams, Home Treatment Team.

Link with admin team to open and close referrals on RiO.

Upload clinical documentation to correspondence.

To assist the qualified nurse in the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.

Responsibility for reporting and recording any clinical documentation onto the clinical system Rio and escalating any concerns identified..

Working to the direction of the qualified nurse to ensure that the requirements of the mental health act 1983 are observed, adhered to and implemented.

Perform delegated clinical and non clinical duties without the need for direct supervision.
