A position has arisen for an Associate Practitioner to provide an important service supporting qualified biomedical scientist staff to deliver a high standard cellular pathology service by performing a range of routine laboratory techniques according to protocols.

A Foundation Degree (Healthcare Practice) or equivalent is essential as is a basic understanding of human biology and medical terminology. Proven experience of working in an NHS laboratory is essential and experience within a cellular pathology department would be advantageous.

**Specific duties include**: preparing biopsy specimens, embedding, sectioning and staining processed surgical tissue, preparation and staining of ICC slides and the preparation of non-gynae samples. You will complete in-house training in some or all of these duties depending on the needs of the service. Good communications skills, teamwork and an aptitude for problem solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.

The pathology departments at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites. This will require cross site working as appropriate. The post will be based initially at The James Cook Hospital until the service transfers to newly refurbished laboratory facilities at North Tees Hospital.

The department has full UKAS accreditation and IBMS training approval. CPD is actively encouraged. The department operates between 07.30 - 17.30. Monday to Friday. The post holder is expected to work flexibly within these hours, with the possibility of extended working in the future.

Leadership and Improvement Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the New and Aspiring leaders programme, and the Foundation Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. After you complete this one and a half day of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7.
