**Job Summary**

The Assistant Director, Operations is the senior manager responsible for providing strategic leadership of the operational functions at IWM (security and site management, business support, volunteer development, H&S and operational risk at all 5 branches and including airfield operations at IWM Duxford), ensuring that IWM operates effectively, safely, securely and with resilience.

This role is both strategic and operational. The postholder will be a critical member of the crisis management team at IWM and will need to be on call as required for any emergencies which may occur.

Your duties will include:
**General**
- A key member of the senior management team supporting the Executive in developing and delivering IWM’s strategic plans. Provides ownership and accountability for the implementation of those decisions across Operations.
- Assists with the preparation of the Directorate’s Corporate Plan submission by providing ideas, narrative and financial submissions. Provides approved monthly and quarterly financial reports for Operations. Produces a quarterly report on current and future activity, progress against strategic plan and use of resources.
- Deputises for the Executive Director of Commercial and Operations at internal and external meetings as appropriate. Supports and facilitates quality visitor experience and income generation at IWM.

**Site Management & Operations, H&S and Operational Risk**
- Responsible for the effective running of each of the 5 branches of IWM 7 days a week, ensuring that IWM operates effectively, safely, securely, compliantly and with resilience.
- To be a key member and leader of the team underpinning the successful production of high-capacity events especially during the IWM Duxford flying season and to place a particular emphasis on ensuring extremely high levels of safety are delivered.
- Ensure that Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) are continually improved, communicated and adhered to by staff, contractors and partners across all sites.
- Ensure appropriate business continuity plans are in place and continually improved and tested; and that appropriate posts and individuals are identified as bronze, silver and gold commands and duty managers and appropriate training and guidance provided.
- Oversee the airfield operations including line management responsibility. This includes maintaining knowledge of CAA regulations and requirements and ensuring that all safety procedures are maintained and adhered to.
- Responsible for ensuring that Operational Method Statements for major functions and events are produced, in place and disseminated to all relevant stakeholders and agencies. To ensure that events are risk assessed and that appropriate cover is applied to mitigate reputational risk issues.
- Responsible for the oversight, review, performance management, and reporting of security and other operational contracts relating to the management of the branches, ensuring contractor adherence to both the letter and spirit of the contract(s). Establishing and ensuring that there are clear methods/practices for monitoring performance against expected standards and KPIs - managing problem resolution as required.
- In consultation with the Executive Director, Commercial & Operations, you will negotiate and manage any such contracts including leading on any re-tenders of contracts.
- Responsible for budget planning and monitoring and ensuring payments that relate to the effective running of the 5 branches are appropriate.

**Security**
- Lead on policy and monitoring of standards with the aim of ensuring operational security procedures are being adhered to and provide advice and support IWM Executive Leadership Team, Governance Boards and Trustees on all matters of security.
- Lead on implementation of Martyn’s Law / Protect Duty legislation for IWM and ensure full compliance with this legislation going forward.
- Ensure that all security breaches and incidents are investigated appropriately, logged, reviewed and reports regularly produced.
- Ensure IWM has adequate and appropriate procedures to security vet staff, contractors and volunteers; and maintain those records as appropriate.
- To have oversight and a clear understanding of the security threats to IWM, undertaking periodic risk management reviews and liaising with external security services as necessary to keep abreast of changing security threat levels and risks, and to ensure IWM processes and procedures are adapted accordingly.
