Salford, United Kingdom Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join the Salford Mental Health Liaison Team, based at Salford Royal Foundation Trust Hospital

The post holder will promote the flexible and responsive development of psychologically informed service delivery, by working in a supervisory and training role with staff, and through providing consultancy and liaison with other stakeholders, including our acute hospital colleagues.

The post holder will join a supportive network of psychologists from a range of specialities (i.e., CMHT, acute inpatient, HBT, EI and EDIT, and Living Well) within the Salford Directorate and will be expected to attend the regular Salford Directorate psychology meetings and CPD events.

We are keen to support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) & additional training appropriate to the role, and welcome queries around flexible working.
- To undertake assessment and formulation of patients being referred to the liaison service who may have complex mental health as well as physical health needs.
- To undertake prompt and highly specialist psychological assessments and formulations to guide the care, management, and timely discharge (where appropriate) of patients with health and mental health concerns. This may include patients facing challenging social situations, persons living with dementia, those who attend hospital frequently or who present with medically unexplained difficulties.
- Utilising psychological formulations (directly and via supervision) to suggest means of increasing resilience, reducing vulnerability in order to prevent future crises and determining the most helpful ways in which services can respond.
- Determination and delivery of appropriate brief psychological interventions during the period of patients’ involvement with the service

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations.

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.

Greater Manchester is one of the world's most innovative, original and exciting places to live and work. From the beauty of the surrounding countryside to the heart of the vibrant inner city with great shopping, entertainment and dining options.

Wherever you go you will experience a great northern welcome with people famed for their warmth, humour and generosity.

Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users.

Please refer to the attached Job Description for a comprehensive overview of the role.

In addition to main duties, the post holder is required to collaborate and respond flexibly to a variety of clinical and service-level demands involving the following duties:

- Participation in multi-disciplinary decision-making regarding patients with psychological and psychiatric disorders admitted to the acute hospital wards and emergency department.
- To participate in the strategic development of the service, including the development of assessment, decision-making and intervention protocols and care pathways
- To assist with the team’s development including reflection on team functioning, the development of systems of information sharing, models of consultation, training and supervision
- To supervise staff in the development and utilisation of psychological and psychosocial formulations and in the delivery of any specific psychological or psychosocial interventions, where appropriate
- To deliver relevant training to Liaison service staff and acute hospital colleagues, where indicated. This may include training around psychological understanding of crises, trauma informed care, assessment, formulation, and interventions, as needed
