**Statement of expectation for the role: To deploy to City and MPS protest activity and to develop intelligence around active groups to prepare and prevent disruption and disorder.**

**Description of Department**:
**The Local R&A - (Research & Analysis) team sitting within Specialist Operations supports local policing in a number of key crime areas affecting the residents, businesses and visitors to the City including in the policing of Protest activity.**

**Level 2 required for Emotional Awareness, Level 1 on all other areas.**

**Forward Intelligence Team Officer - College of Policing**

**Role Purpose**

Forward Intelligence Team (FIT) Officers are deployed to spontaneous or pre-planned public order/public safety events as a resource to identify and gather information on groups and individuals and to enable an effective policing response and act, where needed, in a mutual aid capacity.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Attend pre event briefings to obtain clear understanding of the gold commander’s strategy, the silver commander’s tactical plan and their bronze commander’s deployment plan and to understand their role within it. Participate in Policing Operations, in the City of London and with partners under Op Benbow
- Identify and differentiate individuals and groups who may become involved in or encourage disorder or violence or increase levels of tension and establish dialogue with such individuals or groups, using observation and conversation to gather information and intelligence.
- Seek out and identify areas of risk, including breakaway groups, possible missile caches, and routes and modes of travel of those likely to commit offences, and provide commanders with updates so that resources can be deployed effectively and efficiently.
- Use principles of crowd dynamics and psychology to conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of threat and risk to public, team and individual safety and to communicate emerging issues to the command team.
- Comply with all applicable national and regional guidelines and legislation to ensure the safe and legal policing of public order events and to produce intelligence reports supported by relevant and suitable audit trails.
- Engage in and contribute to the public order and intelligence debriefing processes to ensure information is effectively transmitted and to contribute to organisational learning.

**Essential Criteria**

**Training requirements**:

- Public order core themes Module A1 e-learning programme on the Managed Learning Environment (MLE) prior to attending FIT training
- Officer safety trained as per individual force policy:

- FIT assessment held at the MPSTC
- Level 2 Public order training
- Successfully complete an assessed nationally approved FIT training course module F1 NPPOTC delivered at a licensed centre - a four day training course as delivered by the MPS
- Trained to Module 2 - First aid skills
- Must maintain a portfolio of work by keeping a log of every event they attend

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of Open Source researching, use of Long Arm and ideally trained in MPS iii Covert Internet Investigator, RITES/iii or equivalent advanced Open-Source Course, (but training can be provided if required).
- Capable of using NICHE and Pronto functionality
- Standard Police Driver
