The North Derbyshire Bowel Cancer Screening Service here at Chesterfield Royal Hospital is proud to report that we have been commended for our performance against the National Standards by NHSE. The team are passionate about providing a gold standard service to all our patients, working collaboratively towards continuous service improvement within a friendly and supportive environment. The team successfully managed the introduction of the Age Extension Programme in 2021, which will offer bowel cancer screening to people from the age of 50 once established. Through a gradual expansion process, the team are on track to expand to the next age cohort as well as welcome Lynch Syndrome patients into the programme which will see an increase in activity. It’s a very exciting time to join the team.

The Bowel Cancer Screening Administrator will provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective support service to the Bowel Cancer Screening Team. The post holder will be required to demonstrate a level of initiative in organising their own workload as well as taking decisions and actions. There is a requirement to exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff and carers, requiring tact and diplomacy. To support the general administration of the bowel cancer screening programme, liaising with other departments and external bodies as required. This vacancy is a permanent full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The successful post holder will carry out a range of administrative tasks to a high standard, which includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Liaison with senior Bowel Cancel Screening management team to ensure compliance with national standards and be responsible for contributing towards action plans where appropriate.
2. Liaison with specialist screening practitioners in relation to the administrative support of the flow of patients in the service to ensure compliance with the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme requirements.
3. To be responsible for the processing and monitoring of invoices in relation to the bowel cancer screening and reporting discrepancies to the screening centre manager.
4. To co-ordinate Bowel Cancer Screening meetings, produce and circulate minutes as required.
5. To be responsible for dealing with all enquiries and taking appropriate action in relation to the Bowel Screening Programme.
6. To be responsible for contributing towards audit and activity reports as required to support Health Equality work for the Screening Centre.
7. Maintain the BCSP surveillance waiting lists and local database

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is located in Calow, Chesterfield, which is situated on a green field site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.
