Corporate Governance Officer

Crewe, United Kingdom Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We need a fantastic organiser, with top-level, proven administration skills that must include experience of minute taking.

Corporate Governance sits in a unique place at the centre of the Trust’s governance structure, providing support to Directors and Governors, but also bringing challenge where required. It is a fascinating position to be in but does require a diplomat and someone with an understanding of how to handle confidential information as you will be privy to senior-level discussions and meetings.

For further information, please see the detailed job description.

In the role, you would have a lot of contact with our Trust members, linking in closely with the Communications Team to ensure we are engaging with our members in a variety of ways. You should be able to write reports/briefings and bulletins that are suitable for the intended audience as well as have good communication skills that help you engage with different staff groups and members of the public.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE. The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Corporate Governance and Membership Office and incorporates the following key responsibilities:

- Acting as Committee Secretary to provide administration for Board Committees and other corporate meetings
- Co-ordinating delivery of the Trust’s Membership Strategy and facilitating a strong and engaged membership
- Acting as primary point of contact for all members and providing efficient membership administration and support
- Working as an integral part of the Corporate Governance Team to provide high standards of governance support.

Committee Support
- Provide a comprehensive and effective secretariat function to the Board Committees and other meetings, to include the preparation of agendas, co-ordination of papers, minuting of meetings and maintenance of an accurate action log.
- Maintain an accurate work plan for each meeting, ensuring that it is updated as required throughout the year and working with the Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs to ensure that agendas are prepared in accordance with these.
- Compiling and collating data/survey results for Committee annual effectiveness review.
- Co-ordinate arrangements for the smooth running of meetings, including arranging hospitality as required. Ensure that attendees and speakers receive appropriate information and that the right technology is in place, is facilitated and accessible to all attendees.

Trust Membership
- Take the lead in helping Governors to fulfil their statutory duty of engaging with and taking into account the views of the Trust Membership by ensuring that there are a variety of ways that the Trust interacts with Members. This will include liaising with the Communications team to develop actions and deliver against the Membership Strategy, supporting the annual Youth Ambassador programme and writing reports and briefings as necessary.
- Ensure that the Governor’s Membership and Communications Committee is supported in its business cycle, following the work plan and monitoring progress against objectives.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the membership database, analysing membership data to produce reports on membership demographics. This should be in line with internal and external statutory requirements for reporting.
- Organise the Trust’s Annual Members’ Meeting and other membership events throughout the year in conjunction with the Director of Corporate Affairs.
- Provide a first line of contact for Members and co-ordinate regular membership activity and engagement.
