In line with the government’s priority to increase access to and availability of mental health and well-being support for children and young people,

the new Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England

**Role Summary**

The training programme for this post is 12 months in duration and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning across mental health services and educational settings, such as primary and secondary schools, and further education colleges.

On successful completion of training, trainee EMHPs will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and capabilities to work as qualified EMHPs as autonomous and responsible practitioners within their scope of practice, alongside education colleagues.

EMHPs will play a key role as members of the new Mental Health Support Teams, who will have the responsibility for delivering schools’ overarching approach to providing mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

You will be employed as a Project Worker 1 (NHS Band 4) post, gaining credits towards a post-graduate diploma level qualification throughout your year of study. On successful completion of the training, you will progress to a Project Worker 2 (NHS Band 5) EMHP post.

**Criteria: Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner**

After completion of the training the postholder, with appropriate supervision, will work as an autonomous practitioner to:

- Delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems
- Help children and young people who require support from specialist services
- Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify issues related to mental health and wellbeing
- Support with Whole School Approach
