Not only will you receive fully funded qualifications you will get real-world, hands-on experience of working in an engineering environment in our Land Systems business.

The work at Land Systems is extremely varied. It can involve prototyping, assembly and modifications through to maintenance of in-service equipment. You will work as part of a varied multidisciplinary team, where you will develop invaluable skills. We pride ourselves in high quality solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s needs.

Duties of an Apprentice Assembly & Installation Fitter:

- Attend and engage with training, including exams and 1-2-1 meetings with your tutors/assessors
- Manage your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship
- Reflect on your own practice and experiences and take any feedback onboard
- Learn the process of building a shelter structure and becoming competent in assembling the subcomponents
- Integrate and install common items of equipment such as ACU’s, IT racks, desks, CT scanners, machinery, antennas etc.
- Work on a variety of different products ranging from vehicle installations, shelter construction and refurbishments.
- Read and interpret approved engineering data (technical drawings, test plans, technical data, repair manuals etc.)
- Learn to perform modifications to equipment or parts
- Learn to perform maintenance to equipment, including refurbishment of shelters.
- Meet the high standards of quality

As a fitter, the role has by necessity, a very high level of quality control in order to maintain high safety and regulatory standards. There is a requirement for you to gain a developed understanding of Marshall processes and procedures in order to be compliant with these standards.

There will be two pathways following this apprenticeship programme with the ability to specialise in either Mechanical or Electrical.

The Apprenticeship

Your apprenticeship will be delivered by our very own Marshall Skills Academy. As an Apprentice - Assembly and Installation Fitter working in our Land Systems business you will be following the Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Standard. More information on this standard can be found on the institute for apprenticeships website. Over the course of the 12 month programme you will complete a level 2 diploma qualification and rotate around different areas within Land Systems. After this programme you will continue completing training and development activity to move through the levels of Trainee and Semi-Skilled before finally qualifying as a Skilled worker. There will be the opportunity to specialise in either mechanical or electrical after the initial training.

You will work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required through a range of workshop training, classroom sessions and on the job learning. Not only will you develop your technical skills you will also have the opportunity to develop the behaviours needed to set the foundation for your future career. You will be supported every step of the way by our instructors, mentors, line managers and fellow apprentices.

Entry requirements
- You will need to have GCSE’s in Maths and English or equivalent
- In order to receive apprenticeship funding you must have the right to work in the UK and meet residency eligibility requirements
- You must successfully pass all required medical and security checks if you are offered a place on the apprenticeship programme
