**Role**: HR Manager
- Location_: Manchester City Centre (Hybrid 1/2 days per week)
- Salary_: £28-31k depending on experience
- Hours_: Flexible 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

**Responsible for**: HR & Governance Coordinator, in conjunction with the Governance & Administration Manager

**Policy and Practice**
- Under the direction of the Head of People, to develop, and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring they meet both current legislation and HR best practices and that make it easy for staff and managers to self-serve on hr processes and access supportwhere needed.
- Support informed decisions using robust HR information and people data, identifying trends, and making recommendations to address any identified issues
- To work with the Head of People to develop and implement the people strategy that is aligned to the Union’s wider organisational plans for growth and development.
- To work with external providers as and when needed, e.g., solicitors on sensitive employee relation issues.

**Culture and Environment**
- Engaging with managers to build capacity and capability in dealing effectively with employee relations matters - Direct and advise the HR & Governance Coordinator in respect of recruitment and selection processes and other relevant HR administration.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge in employment law and HR best practice briefing colleagues on relevant changes as required. - Provide guidance to managers on areas of high risk
- Support and develop The Union to be an inclusive employer, promoting awareness and embedding approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion
- Contribute to the development of The Union’s operating plan, working in conjunction with relevant departments across the organisation to achieve agreed objectives.
- Promote staff wellbeing and arrange a range of activities through the year to support this

**HR Projects**
- Lead and/or support, as appropriate, on consultative discussions and negotiations with the recognised trade union and or staff forums, if appropriate
- Assess the staff survey results and make recommendations to address concerns and create a transparent and effective approach to support staff voice and engagement.
- Introduce clear and robust employee relations processes
- Lead and/or support, as appropriate, in the streamlining and development of HR systems in conjunction with the Finance Manager and other managers as necessary.

**Learning & Development**
- Work with relevant staff to ensure the effective provision of appropriate induction and learning and development activity, for all staff, trustees and elected officers including equality and diversity training.
- Support the development of The Union’s appraisal process
- Develop and administer a robust development plan for Line Managers to aid their continued growth to include HR best practice and risk management.
- Work with line and senior managers to develop personal development plans, identifying appropriate learning and development solutions which meet organisational needs.

**Line Management**
- Assist staff working within the HR team in their development, undertaking appraisals and regular management meetings
- Manage the recruitment, induction and training of staff within the HR team as required in conjunction with the Head of People.
- Ensure effective communication between members of staff and departments in The Union.
- Ensure that all staff perform their duties and responsibilities to the required standard
- Where necessary, implement performance management measures in accordance with the policies and procedures of The Union

**The post holder shall**:

- Attend meetings and training events as required.
- Comply with union policies, procedures and constitution at all times.
- Comply with environmental legislation and both support and promote measures introduced within the union to lessen environmental impact
- Contribute to the positive and professional image of the union and not act in such a manner as to bring the Union into disrepute.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibilities of the post that may from time to time be reasonably requested.
- Have a flexible approach to duties and work and, in particular, adopt a teamwork style with departments and activities across the union. This may involve undertaking duties in support of the activities and services of other departments.
- Understand and uphold the mission, vision and values of the organisation and be always guided by them in the course of work.
