**JOB DESIGNATION**: TEACHING ASSISTANT LEVEL 2
Physically Robust and Class Learning

**GRADE: TTO Grade D Spine 07 to spine 10 34 Hours per week**

**POST OBJECTIVE/S**:
To work under the instruction/guidance of teacher/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. To support pupils with basic personal tasks including personal care when necessary. An element of this post is to continue to assist secondary aged male and/or female pupils
- including through periods of challenging behaviour and physical challenge.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
SUPPORT FOR PUPILS

▪ To communicate simply and effectively to pupils following the communication advice of each child’s pupil record and take care to try to understand what the child wishes to express.

▪ To take care to ensure that one’s actions promote each child’s physical comfort, personal dignity and social inclusion at all times.
- Supervise and provide particular support for pupils with Severe and/or Autistic Spectrum Condition

(ASC) or Profound learning difficulties ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education and Behaviour plans.
- To provide the highest standards in personal care (including toileting, washing, bathing, showering etc) following the school’s Hygiene and Safer People Handling procedures and the pupil’s care plan at all times.
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs and the school’s policies.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
- Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage all pupils in activities led by the teacher.
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
- Hold good expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
- Follow procedures, training and Promoting Positive Behaviour plans to meet needs of pupils and maintain their dignity & safety at such times. To record any incidents of Challenging Behaviour on the school’s recording systems.

SUPPORT FOR THE TEACHER
- Ensure that pupils are ready to learn by providing the highest standards of personal care.
- Whilst communicating effectively with the pupil concerned be discrete and minimise disruption to lessons when assisting pupils to leave or arrive during lessons.
- Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils in achieving their learning goals.
- To follow the guidance of the teacher to ensure that individual educational strategies, plans and programmes including those to support pupils with communication needs including ASC.
- To follow the guidance of the teacher to establish a purposeful, tidy, orderly and supportive learning

environment and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
- To report pupils’ responses to learning activities to the teacher as directed.
- Undertake basic annotation of pupils’ work as directed.
- Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and referring serious incidents to qualified staff in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- To establish positive relationship with parents/carers in accordance with school policy and refer difficulties to qualified staff as necessary.
- To assist with basic clerical/admin. support as necessary e.g. photocopying, laminating, filing pupils’ work & pupil red files, collect money, etc.
- To lead small group learning activities pre-planned by the teacher or TA3.

SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM
- Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses.
- Deliver learning strategies that best meet the needs of the pupil population.
- Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
- Prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources.

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Contribute to the overall positive, professional, ethos/work/aims of the school.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct/confidentiality at all times and act in line with the school’s Professional Relationship Guidelines.
- To be reliable and complete tasks to high standard and in good time.
