We have a rare and exciting opportunity that would suit someone who is passionate, innovative, and inspirational of the design and delivery of a robust PSHE curriculum. In addition to a full appreciated understanding of what it takes to lead the highest standard of safeguarding approaches within a Prep School setting.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher who will have a real presence across the school, confident at holding colleagues to account and have a proven track record of success. In addition to being a strong collaborator but equally experienced and adept at taking ownership of tasks.

**DSL Responsibilities**

The DSL will take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school (including online safety) whilst also taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contributing to the assessment of children.

Advising and supporting other members of staff on child welfare, safeguarding, child protection matters and liaising with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

**General**_:_
- Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection, including online safety, at the school.
- A full and active member of the Prep Leadership Team
- Contribute to creating a safe and welcoming learning environment.
- Available during all school hours during term time for staff to discuss any safeguarding concerns. Generally, this should be in person; however be available to perform these duties virtually in exceptional circumstances.

**Managing Referrals**:

- Act as the first point of contact for staff members raising safeguarding and child protection concerns.
- Identify pupils who may be at risk and use the correct referral protocol to reduce these risks.
- Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns relating to the wellbeing of a pupil.
- Refer cases of suspected child protection issues to the appropriate investigating agency, e.g. children’s social care services (CSCS), the police and Channel.
- Work closely with staff on safeguarding and child protection matters, ensuring that staff members understand when it is necessary for a referral to be made.
- Support staff members who make referrals to external agencies.
- To work with HR and LADO in the notification to DBS of any staff who have been dismissed or have left due to posing risk or harm to a child.
- Liaise with the LA and follow up any referrals made, ensuring the school aids the LA’s work where necessary.

**Head of PSHE Responsibilities**:

- Implement seamless PSHE and RSE curricula throughout the School, ensuring continuity of teaching and learning.
- Annually audit the effectiveness of lesson planning and delivery, reporting to the Assistant Head (Teaching and Learning)
- Conduct PSHE focussed lesson observations and document outcomes
- Participate in ongoing professional development, whole School and departmental meetings, training days and working groups
- Support staff with planning engaging age appropriate lessons
- Ensure staff have access to a wealth of appropriate and inspirational resources
- Conduct the annual RSE consultation with parents and implement any required changes
- Publish and annually review Programmes of Study, Schemes of Work for every year group in the School
- Publish and annually review effective and robust PSHE policies
- Publish and annually review a prioritised Departmental Development Plan
