As a SEND Officer for casework and statutory assessments you will facilitate planning meetings for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities, across the 0 - 25-year-old age range. They will lead the assessment and planning process for families across schools and a range of service providers, including education, health, social care and voluntary sectors.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Be the main point of contact for young people/parents/carers and co-ordinate the EHC needs assessment and planning process within statutory timescales.
- Work in partnership with parents/carers, children and young people to ensure they are involved and where appropriate kept informed and that they are central to any decisions made about them.
- Ensure the preferred communication method of the child/young person is recognised and the plan adapted if relevant.
- Identify the information that needs to be gathered for the co-ordinated assessment and ensure it is completed within statutory timescales.
- Manage the compilation of all the information received from a range of professionals from education, health and/or social care.
- Ensure the child/young person and/or their parents/carers are involved in the meetings and development of the EHC Plan.
- Plan, facilitate and chair SEND planning meetings with parents/carers and key professionals across education, health, social care along with the child/young person, if appropriate.
- Work closely with the SEND Services Team Manager, including maintaining regular communication and updates, reporting issues, meeting deadlines, and feeding back to help inform further service development.
- Work within the statutory timescales.
- Contribute to borough-wide pupil place planning through a thorough knowledge of a number of special schools, schools with units and mainstream schools.

**Full UK driving licence.**

**Qualification**:

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Level 2 English (grade C GCSE or above).
- Level 2 mathematics (grade C GCSE or above).

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Experience of working with children/young people with SEND.
- Experience of working with a broad range of people including families, education, social care and health professionals.
- Experience of leading multi-agency meetings.
- Experience of writing reports compiled with information from a number of sources.
- Knowledge of children’s and adults health and social care services.
- Experience of partnership working.
- Experience of the Education, Health and Care assessment and annual review process.
- Experience of working in a busy environment with conflicting deadlines.
- Experience of negotiating and dealing with difficult stakeholders.

**Knowledge**:

- An understanding of the issues facing children/young people with SEND and their families.
- An in-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- An up to date knowledge of the changes in the SEND landscape.
- Able to use common software packages and willingness to learn and operate specific IT systems relating to SEND.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Able to motivate others and deliver changes for children/young people and their families with SEND
- Able to use own initiative
- Able to demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs
- Willingness to develop skills further
- Flexible approach to work
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
