Research Associate On The Autocs Project

We are looking for a researcher to work on the EPSRC-funded Automatic Computer Scientist (AutoCS) project. The aim is to accelerate algorithm discovery by building an AutoCS. A key objective is to use an AutoCS to discover a novel algorithm and publish it in a computer science journal. Such a result would be a landmark achievement for AI. Developing machines that automatically write computer programs, commonly known as program synthesis, is a grand challenge in AI. This project builds on recent breakthroughs in inductive logic programming (ILP), a form of machine learning based on computational logic. As a researcher on this project, you will join the Logic and Learning (LOL) group. You will work under the supervision of Dr Andrew Cropper.

You will hold or be close to obtaining a PhD in Computer Science (or close to completion) or a related mathematical discipline. You will have a strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field, as witnessed by published peer-reviewed work (according to your experience) in artificial intelligence and machine learning. You will have the ability to contribute to research on AutoCS and be willing to collaborate with others and work effectively as a member of a team. Excellent communication skills are also required, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

This post is a full time, fixed term contract for two years with a potential extension to three years.
