Supervise trainee phlebotomists and Honorary Contract working within your area Adhere to all Trust policies on the collection, storage and transport of samples, especially "high risk" specimens Adhere to Trust Infection Control policies Inform the nurse in charge or doctor if unable to take appropriate specimens or to follow the accepted procedure for that area Planning and Organising To ensure that all samples are returned to the laboratory in a timely fashion and that urgent samples are delivered to the laboratory and that the Biomedical Scientist on duty is made aware of their urgency. Managing -- People and Resources To report to the Lead Phlebotomist, any issues affecting the Phlebotomy service.

Follow all appropriate Departmental Standard Operating procedures at all times. Follow all Health and Safety procedures at all times. Ensure phlebotomy staff treat colleagues and patients with dignity and respect at all times. Training and Teaching To maintain own competencies, knowledge and skills regarding phlebotomy.

To assist in training other staff as required in phlebotomy Research/Innovation and development To organise and assist in the collection of blood samples for approved research projects and clinical trials as required. General Trust Standards 1.To act in a manner that a reasonable person would expect from a member of staff in that profession or pay band. 2.To adhere to the Trust policies and procedures. 3.To uphold Trust values -- Compassion, Excellence and Collaboration'.

4.To treat all information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 5.The job description will be reviewed annually by the line manager and may be amended after discussion with the post holder (s). 6.This job description is intended as a guide to the main responsibilities of the post, and the post holder will be required to undertake such duties appropriate to the position as may be required by the Manager to ensure the smooth running of the service. Health and Safety Within their own area of responsibility, the post holder will be responsible for assessing the risks to the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors or to the achievement of the Trust's objectives. The post holder must ensure that identified risks are reported so that significant clinical and non-clinical risks are included in the Hospital's Risk Register.

Use of personal protective clothing and additional protective equipment when appropriate. Strict adherence to Trust guidelines on collecting and handling of clinical specimens. Work in partnership to promote health and wellbeing and reduction of risk in relation to infection control standards which might include walk-around audits, analysis of data and challenging non-adherence Dignity at Work To be responsible for their own behaviour. Be aware of the Trust's Anti-Harassment and Bullying policy.

Comply with requests to attend training and similar activities in support of the policy. To comply with requests for information regarding harassment and bullying in the Trust as required. Treat all colleagues and customers in a manner which meets equal opportunities and good practice. Expertise in role -- after initial development Carry out phlebotomy duties throughout the Hospital To provide Extra services such as Venous Cannulation, Venous Blood Gas Sampling and Covid Swabbing on Weekends.

To ensure that all appropriate Directorate Standard Operating Procedures are followed at all times. Attendance at the hospital induction (for employees new to the Trust) and completion of the departmental induction within one month of appointment to post Undertake appraisal training and participate in an annual appraisal with line manager
