**Job Title**: Intervention Mentor

**Salary**: £26,422 pro rata per annum (actual salary £23,013)

**Hours of work**: 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8.00 am - 4.00 pm Friday 8.00 am - 3.30 pm. Term time only.

**Responsibilities**:
To provide a support system for students. Addressing the needs of students who need help in overcoming barriers to learning and developing their potential both inside and outside the classroom due to their particular behaviour, social and emotional difficulties.

**Key Duties & Accountabilities**:

- To assist in the identification of those children who would benefit most from intervention and working with others, draw up and implement an action plan for each child who needs particular support.
- To deliver group work to targeted groups of students.
- To develop a 1:1 mentoring relationship with students needing particular support where necessary, aimed at achieving the goals defined in the action plan.
- To support students in the Restorative Justice Process.
- To record intervention and support in a timely manner.
- To evaluate intervention impact.
- To report evaluation data to Lead Mentor.
- To maintain regular contact with families/carers of children in need of extra support, to keep them informed of the child’s needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement.
- To support students who need to work in SSC where appropriate. This can include those returning from periods of absence or injury, late starters or others with gaps on timetables for any reason.
- Support individual students with their work in the classroom.
- Support students who may have attendance/truancy issues.
- Liaise with staff within the SSC.
- To co-ordinate work with external agencies/providers as necessary.
- Attend regular meetings with appropriate senior staff.
- To support and counsel students.
- Deal with any issues raised by students during confidential discussions promptly and inform relevant staff of the issues and the action take
- To support the operation of the Withdrawal Room.

**Whole School**
- Attend all statutory training as required.
- Any other duty as directed by Head of Department or Senior Leadership Member.

**Skills**:

- Good communication skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Familiarity with standard computing packages such as Microsoft Office.

**Personal competencies and qualities**:

- The motivation to work with children and young people.
- The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
- The ability to work in a team environment and under pressure.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- A good sense of humour.
- A calm demeanour.
- A perceptive understanding of young people and their needs and expectations.
