**Job overview**:
We require someone who is conscientious and capable of careful and accurate work with the ability to put patient needs at the heart of what we do. Although the role is not patient facing this laboratory based post requires an individual with the ability to work meticulously to ensure good care is maintained. In house training will be provided to the successful applicants. Good hand / eye coordination and accurate data entry, numeracy and literacy skills are also required. Basic science knowledge particularly of chemistry and biology would be helpful.

**Main duties of the job**:
The duties of this post are varied, and include specimen reception, entering patient data into the laboratory IT system, assisting with the laboratory handling of most types of specimens and receiving and sending material to other hospitals.

Other tasks include: preparing reagents, solutions and stains, daily maintenance of laboratory equipment, maintaining laboratory archive systems, cleaning laboratory equipment and general housekeeping tasks. There is a requirement to be able to lift heavy objects such as boxes and waste and to be able to push trolleys.
