The Bakehouse and Grill, formerly known as Jackie Lunns, is a family-run business with two busy outlets in Kelso (which is also our bakery) and in Earlston in the Scottish Borders. Run by Pauline and Max Robbie, both Borders born and bred, this company has its roots going all the way back to the last century.

The Bakehouse has continued to grow year-on-year and is completely customer focused. It’s growth has been driven not only by delivering a high quality product, but also by ensuring that the customer receives products and service second to none. As part of our medium to long-term plans, we are looking to boost our already great team of employees with these new roles which will allow us to continue to evolve our service offerings and also allow our staff to become more multi-skilled. These vacancies are for both facilities in Kelso and in Earlston.

We have recently brought in Gordon Brown, former founder and Chairman of GB Technologies (and a long-term shareholder in this business ) to oversee and manage our recruitment. Gordon was renowned for staff loyalty and retention and has wide experience of creating career pathways for staff, from new starts to board level for the correct person.

Experience in the industry or in front of house in the retail industry is useful but not essential. We are simply looking for the next long term member of the team with a great work ethic and the desire to be part of an amazing team.

Customer Service Supervisor (full and/ or part time ) KELSO.

This exciting new vacancy will offer the right person a role working alongside Senior Management to plan growth and customer service within the business. Reporting to Senior Management on a weekly basis, together we will identify and discuss ideas and opportunities for taking the business further and maximising existing practices.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

- Ordering goods to meet customer demand and in line with waste targets set by Management.
- Running the shop efficiently, ensuring specific measures like stock control, recording of waste, portion control and correct use of till are all recorded.
- Ensuring promotional items and associated literature are displayed prominently and correctly.
- Ensuring all shop procedures as set down by Management are adhered to at all times i.e. cleaning schedules - temperature readings etc.
- Ensuring that all staff carry out their tasks in a hygienic method without risking customers’ health, and providing safe food at all times.
- Training and evaluating new employees over their probation period.

Full training and support will, of course, be given to the right person. Our expectations are that our company ethos of always ‘putting the customer first’ is adhered to.

Training will include:
How to greet and serve customers in a manner that complies with company standards;
Product introduction and training to give you a broad degree of product knowledge, so as never to disappoint customers;
Company procedures and training guidelines on hygienic work practices at all times, to ensure that customers are not put at risk at any time.

Stock control, record keeping and staff rotas.

As well as providing all aspects of training, full and continued management support will be on hand.

The type of person we are looking for will be friendly, happy and caring with a ‘will do, can do’ attitude and a strong work ethic.
