At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

We’re looking for a certified Agile Transformation Coach to join Cancer Research UK’s newly formed Agile Team to be on the front lines of our ambitious organisational transformation. You’ll drive our Agile and Len capability by supporting the implementation of best practices to empower our teams and enable Cancer Research UK to become the most adaptive, resilient, and innovative organisation it can be so we can help beat cancer sooner.

Aside from the day-to-day implementation of Agile and Lean methodologies across future-focused Technology portfolios, products, and initiatives; you will train, coach, and mentor individuals and teams to adopt an Agile and Lean approach in line with CRUK’s Design Principles and our Technology strategy.

What will I be doing?

Coaching & collaborating
- Evaluating cross-functional team needs whilst advising and coaching on the adoption and continuation of an Agile and Lean mindset in line with CRUK’s Principles and Technology Strategy
- Implementing Agile and Lean ways of working across the Technology directorate and the wider charity. You will use frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Design Thinking, or bespoke approaches based on organisational and team needs to:

- Foster an atmosphere conductive to effective communication and psychological safety
- Ensure teams are value-focused and able to deliver at a sustainable pace
- Improving the maturity of how we facilitate and host agile ceremonies and workshops (e.g. design sprints, planning, retrospectives, kick-offs, lean coffees, etc.)

Best practices and capability building
- Driving and facilitating the Agile capability at Cancer Research UK
- Acting as a role model demonstrating the charity’s beliefs, and setting the tone for how people behave
- Understanding and promoting our Technology operating and organisational model
- Driving and promoting a team culture of support and sharing which facilitates learning (including failure, and individual and capability continuous development)
- Developing best practices by proactively identifying and implementing learnings, new frameworks, techniques, and tools
- Developing guiderails and playbooks
- Promoting the Agile capability across the organisation to influence our organisational culture and promote best practices. You will do this by delivering training, presentations, blog posts, and creating learning & development resources
- Mentoring team members new to the Agile capability
- Continuously promote a spirit of collaboration and approachability within the Agile capability, portfolio, and delivery teams, as well as with our stakeholders
- Assisting the Lead Agile Manager and other team members in setting, tracking, and meeting measurable objectives (currently a team of 6)
- Identifying and capitalising on opportunities for continuous improvement whilst encouraging and challenging others to do the same for the benefit of the charity and our supporters

What skills are you looking for?
- Agile and Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) certified Agile Coach, Agile Delivery Manager, Scrum Master, or Kanban Practitioner
- Significant experience implementing Agile and Lean approaches, and transformational change within large organisations
- Experienced in a wide range of Agile, Lean, and other methods (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Lean UX / Lean Start-up, DevOps, design thinking, ITIL, and project-based delivery)
- Successfully embedded agile ways of working and coached technology teams on complex projects/products and Agile and Lean methodologies
- Extensive experience driving behavioural change in a sustainable way
- Strong stakeholder management skills with excellent communication and ability to challenge with confidence and influence upwards

What will I gain?

Each and every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer. We think that’s impressive.

In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies and processes to enable you to do your job well.
