**ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES**

**What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?**

To execute software engineering activities to support the development of new product features, providing project management support to ensure all necessary workstreams work together cohesively to support world-leading innovation efforts across various categories at BAT.

This is a technical product owner position and requires strong technical understanding of Embedded Systems software development, IoT, User flows, Hardware design and Agile software development techniques. This role assists with the ownership of new product features within the connectivity and IoT domain and delivering viable options

**Reports to**:Head of Connected Experiences and Software

**Core relationships**:
Internal - Various domain experts across BAT; Industrial Design; Product Marketing; Digital solutions and Security

External - Development Partners

**Geographic Scope**:Global

**WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Be responsible for the delivery of new software components for new and upgraded BAT devices, supporting the development of new technology blocks, planning sufficient tests to ensure they are suitable for device integration efforts to follow
- Contribute towards key software engineering workstreams (typically one major or several minor workstreams at any given time) to help integrate new technologies into new systems
- Gather product requirements from multiple sources and convert these into technical requirements.
- Assign ownership of features based on technical domain and work with the relevant teams to ensure on time delivery of these features.
- Drive and actively participate in design discussions, road map reviews, brainstorming and prioritisation sessions.
- Represent software in multidiscipline engineering review meetings.
- Lead inhouse and offshore firmware development teams, subcontractors, and partners to ensure on time delivery of project milestones.
- Organise regular change control meetings to identify, prioritise and track new requirement, risks, and defects
- Assist communications with BAT’s internal teams to create functional software solutions, demonstrating how they satisfy the defined project requirements
- Provide project/workstream management updates when vital, tracking progress towards achievements and noting expenditure against budgets
- Problem-solve any identified issues whenever possible, escalating when necessary

**ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**

**Experience Required**
- Extensive experience in IoT product management and development, including ideation, validation, and productization of IoT technologies.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems development and integration of IoT technologies such as sensors, microcontrollers, and wireless communication protocols.
- Experience in Agile software development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean, as well as a strong understanding of software development process.
- Ability to analyse business requirements, identify gaps, and translate them into product features and technical specifications.
- Experience in project management, including planning, execution, monitoring, and control of IoT product development projects.
- Ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with engineering teams effectively.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with different partners, present product roadmap, and manage expectations.
- Ability to manage resources such as time, budget, and team members to ensure project success.
- Ability to identify and mitigate project risks, as well as develop contingency plans.
- Ability to manage vendors and third-party suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of services or products.

- Presentation Skills: Ability to create and deliver presentations to different audiences, such as executive management, partners, and development teams.
- Customer Focus: Understanding of customer needs and pain points, and the ability to incorporate them into the product roadmap.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills and experience in leading multi-functional teams, motivating and inspiring the team towards common goals.
- Problem-solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to solve issues in IoT products and provide quick and effective solutions.
