Overview:
**Appointment of the Chair of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board**

Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint a new Chair of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board from 1 July 2024.

Applications are invited from people with the skills and experience to help workers’ and employers’ representatives to reach fair and reasonable settlements on matters relating to agricultural wages, holiday entitlement and other relevant terms and conditions of service.

The Scottish Agricultural Wages Board is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body set up under the Agricultural Wages (Scotland) Act 1949. Its purpose is to make statutory Orders fixing minimum wage rates, holiday entitlement and other terms and conditions of service for workers employed in agriculture in Scotland. The Board’s Orders are legally enforceable and the Scottish Government Rural Directorate has a duty to investigate complaints about non-compliance. It also carries out random test inspections on agricultural holdings to ensure compliance and pursues recovery of arrears on behalf of workers.

**Time Commitment and Remuneration**

Remuneration is:

- £278.00 Daily Rate
- £139.00 Half Day Rate
- £81.00 Homework Rate

The role currently requires a time commitment between 10 and 16 days per annum. Depending on the demand, the time commitment could be less than stated, however, it is unlikely to be more. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. This appointment is non-pensionable.

Skills/Experience Required:
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

- Experience of strategic leadership.

**Essential criteria**:

- The ability to listen and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
- Experience of negotiation and mediation.
- The ability to analyse and evaluate complex arguments and recognise the implications.

**Desirable Criteria**

Although not essential, it would be desirable if applicants demonstrated the following:

- Awareness of economic and employment drivers in the rural sector.
