**Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor
Birmingham
£30,000 - £35,000 (DOE)
08:00am - 16:00pm**
A well-known, reputable precious metals business is looking for an experienced Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor to join their team based in the heart of Birmingham. Working with the Operations Manager to proactively supervise the Analytical Laboratory operations,including scheduling tests and work, prioritising workflow, and ensuring completion of work within agreed service levels, along with the supervision of laboratory personnel.
**Roles and responsibilities of the Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor**:
" Supervise daily analytical laboratory operations and co-ordinate the associated work activities, to deliver tests and lab services to agreed standards and lead-times, along with meeting relevant compliance obligations.
" Maintain a working knowledge of the laboratory Methods and be able to provide cover and carry out these methods if required.
" Work with the Operations Manager, and laboratory personnel, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of laboratory operations, including the development and use of scheduling systems to plan, manage and communicate capacity, lead times, demands, turnaroundtimes etc.
" Liaise with the Technical Director and R&D Chemist to support on R&D projects.
" Support the training and development of laboratory personnel, to provide flexibility, and cover for all tasks and competencies required within the lab area, along with maintenance of the Skills Matrix.
" Liaise with relevant personnel to ensure that all critical laboratory equipment is fit for purpose, safe and serviceable, including managing preventive maintenance programmes, service plans, calibration programmes etc.
" Assist with maintaining relevant laboratory related Business Management System (BMS) documentation, including procedures, methods, and work instructions.
" Ensure there are appropriate health & safety controls in place to mitigate and reduce risks in the laboratory environment.
" Ensure adherence to all relevant ISO accreditation and regulatory requirements.
" Liaising with external regulators and certification bodies during visits and assessments.
**Experience and attributes required**:
" BSc in Chemistry, or equivalent.
" Flexible and able to work on own initiative.
" Comfortable and willing to take on responsibility.
" People skills, excellent communicator, strong team player.
" Proven completer/finisher - gets the job done.
" Organised and dependable.
" Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation
" Practical experience of quality management systems including relevant ISO Standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, along with associated elements such as internal audit and root cause analysis etc (desirable).
