**Job description**:

- The International Data Flows Unit’s mission is to champion the international flow of data whilst keeping individual’s data safe. We do this by developing tools and mechanisms to enable flows and collaborating with partners both bilaterally and multilaterally to influence global data governance. This role is in the part of the team managing risks to EU Adequacy, which is due for renewal in 2025.**Person specification**:
Lead on monitoring and assessing risks to the UK’s EU adequacy decisions posed by UK policy initiatives. This includes becoming an expert on a variety of policy areas and understanding their impact on data protection, and providing strategic advice to Ministers on how to mitigate any risks.

Build strong relationships with other Government departments (e.g. FCDO, Home Office) and effectively communicate risk management plans to colleagues across Government. The post holder will be also responsible for the secretariat of the cross-Government EU Data Transfers Working Group.

Develop and implement an HMG strategy for engaging with the European Commission and other EU stakeholders (e.g. European Parliament) on our reciprocal decisions that allow for the free flow of data.

A track record of delivering objectives in a complex policy/political environment.

Strong communication skills, and the ability to work across and beyond departmental boundaries

The ability to build and maintain relationships with senior level stakeholders within and externally to government.

The ability to think strategically and work with legal and analytical colleagues to produce well evidenced and designed policy recommendations which reflect the risks and benefits of various options

**Desirable criteria**

Familiarity with international data policy

Experience of influencing policy development/delivery internationally.
