Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you passionate about helping patients and making a difference? If the answer is yes, come and join our team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new and innovative role as a cancer navigator to work alongside our urology and skin cancer teams across all STH sites including Northern General, Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park Hospital.

The post-holders will work as part of a designated navigator team, focussing on end-to-end pathway, ensuring timely and proactive progression at all points.

Your primary responsibilities will be to act as patient advocate to overcome barriers to timely access, minimising any delays. You will maintain effective communication with and on behalf of the patient, working closely with the help of cancer CNS’s and operational teams to support patients through their pathways.

If you relish a challenge, have a passion to help others or simply fancy a fresh start, then STH has all the right ingredients. Join our team and enjoy being part of working with engaged leadership at all levels and be assured we are all committed to helping patients navigate through their pathways with us.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, confident and dynamic individual who will be a central point of contact for patients on a ‘rapid diagnostic, suspicious of cancer pathway’. This will include helping to ensure that the individual needs of patients’ are supported, whilst facilitating a seamless, coordinated pathway delivery; and a better, more personalised diagnostic experience for patients (including achievement of the 28 Day Faster Diagnosis Standard).

The post holder will identify and resolve barriers to care, working flexibly and responsively to unlock bottlenecks and delays. They will therefore be required to work autonomously and have strong organisation, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as commitment and compassion for patients and their quality of care and experience.

The role will reflect the Level 3 and some Level 4 competencies as described in Macmillan’s ‘Person Centred Care Competency Framework’ (2020).

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Please view the attached Job Description and Person Specification documents for full details regarding this post.
