The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Driven by government’s aim for clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas, MMO’s purpose is to protect and enhance our precious marine environment and support UK economic growth by enabling sustainable marine activities and development.

We are the independent regulator for England’s seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.

We are a team of around 500 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Preston, Scarborough, Shoreham and Whitehaven.

Job description

This is a key role within the MMO’s Fisheries Management Team. The fisheries licensing team is responsible for fishing vessel licensing functions on behalf of the UK fishing administrations (UKFAs).

You will be required to work closely with internal and external stakeholders such as the UKFAs, the European Commission (EC), Third Country and Regional Fisheries Management Organisations, in order to collect data and information, to give advice and guidance and ensure compliance with regulations. Manage and maintain the licensing webpages.

**Personal performance**
- Take active ownership of the Fishing Vessel Licensing within the team and contribute in the effective delivery of the MMO’s ‘delivering sustainable fishing opportunities’ service.
- Ensure delivery of personal and team objectives through effective prioritisation, highlighting risks to your HEO and an overall focus on professionally delivered services.
- Continue to review and develop work areas and actively pursue continuous improvement, with the overarching aim of providing a quality service.
- Act as a role model in the delivery of the MMO’s guiding principles of being ‘ambitious’, ‘professional’ and ‘balanced’ whilst living our values of being ‘accountable’ ‘innovative’, ‘engaging’ and ‘inclusive’

**Stakeholder Management**
- Actively demonstrate the MMO’s commitment to being more outward looking, engaging and working collaboratively with our stakeholders and delivery partners to help achieve shared objectives together.
- Positive engagement with sector and non-sector industry customers, Defra, the Fisheries Administrations, IFCAs, and other stakeholders, including on consultations.
- Represent MMO at industry working groups and forums such as bi-annual licensing workshops.

**Continuous Improvement**
- Champion continuous improvement to ensure that team delivery matches the MMO’s commitment to delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.

**Day to Day**
- Achievement of personal targets and KPI’s.
- Ensure that the MMO values and code of conduct are embedded in your daily activity and you provide feedback to others.
- Comply with all MMO policies and procedures at all times.
- Develop customer and stakeholder relationships to enable mutually satisfactory results.
- Maximize opportunities to continually learn about your role and yourself.
- Support corporate initiatives as required.
- Positively promote the MMO “brand” and MMO story outside of the organisation.
