**Job summary**:
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) protects the public by helping employers make safer recruitment decisions and by barring individuals who pose a risk to vulnerable groups from working and volunteering in certain roles.

As part of the Strategy, Performance & Change directorate, you will be required to deliver a collaborative and proactive service to the whole organisation, providing advice and guidance to empower the business to understand and make decisions based on a sound understanding of policy and legislative requirements.

**Job description**:
**Corporate Duties**
- Play an active part as a member of the Policy Team, supporting the Head of Service in their functions
- Support the team and the wider unit through the role of iManager
- Provide ad-hoc administrative support to the team/Unit

**Operational Delivery**

To ensure that the Team can provide a highly effective, outcome-focused and flexible service to meet business needs by:

- Developing materials for, and delivering face to face and remote training to internal staff on relevant topics
- Providing routine policy advice to the full range of internal stakeholders ensuring DBS works within its legislative framework within agreed service levels
- Developing and maintaining the skills and knowledge required to deliver effective services to the business
- Pro-actively participating in all compulsory DBS training, e.g., Data Protection and Security
- Effectively managing own capacity to ensure that resources are adequate to deliver the services offered by the team, escalating concerns to line manager where appropriate
- Drafting guidance documents and contributing to the review cycle for Policy-owned advice and guidance
- Analysing and reporting on trends in enquiries, and proposing remedial action
- Support of reviews and initiatives as required

**External/Internal Stakeholder Engagement**

To contribute to effective stakeholder engagement to maximise stakeholder relationships (internal and external) and ensure the successful delivery of DBS services in line with wider Government intention by:

- Being an advocate of the team to both internal and external stakeholders

Supporting the Policy Managers in engagement with key external operational policy stakeholders, e.g., Department for Education, Home Office

**Essential Skills**

1. The Job Holder will be able to demonstrate the ability to understand, interpret and explain complex information for different target audiences both internally and externally.

2. The Job Holder will be proficient in the use of Microsoft products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams and Sharepoint, in order to support work outputs.
