Housing Benefit Assistant

**Overview**
We are seeking a diligent and proactive Housing Benefit Assistant to join our dynamic property management company. Housing Benefit Assistant will play a crucial role in managing the company's accounts receivable and ensuring timely collection of outstanding income. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong organisational skills, and excellent communication abilities to interact with tenants, clients, and senior management.
**Responsibilities**
The full collection of all required housing benefit and service charges. Produce and review regular aged debtor and resolution reports. Working closely with the housing teams to ensure that all payment gaps are investigated, mitigated, and resolved so all properties receive full and consistent payments.
**Main roles**
- Ensure that the company manages its income via housing benefit and play a crucial part in tracking, managing, and recouping expected payments
- Produce accurate reports reflecting income received vs. income expected and provide commentary to senior management on any areas of non or partial payment
- Take prompt action where non or partial payment has been identified
- Work closely with senior management to ensure that debtor accounts are up to date and accurate
- Work closely with the housing team to ensure that all service charges are collected on a regular basis and take action where this is not the case
- Ensure that charges are correctly allocated to tenant accounts, adjusting accounts in an accurate manner as and when required
- Provide senior management with monthly reports on income collection, alongside exceptions reports with commentary on how non or partial payments will be recovered
- Manage and maintain relationships with Local Authority Housing Benefit Departments and ensure that all Local Authority queries associated with housing benefit payments are handled in an efficient manner
- Assist the housing officers to ensure the process of collecting direct debits for tenant service charges is working optimally & they are informed in a timely way if tenants go out of payment.
The Housing Benefit assistant will be dedicated to managing, tracking and recouping all monies owed to the company, with a particular focus on Gross Housing Benefit and Ineligible Service Charges. The individual will be self-motivated with an ability to manage own work load, and that of the income team and prioritise tasks as required. Housing Benefit Assistant will have excellent organisational skills with an ability to simultaneously manage a number of income streams.
