**About us**:
Finance is headed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is part of UCL’s Professional Services. The CFO reports to the President & Provost and is a member of both the University Management Committee (UMC) and the Professional Services Leadership Team, working closely with the Vice President Operations. Finance is divided into 3 Directorates: Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Finance Business Partnering and Financial Services. They are responsible for the management of UCL's financial performance and strategy and for the provision of services and advice. The role is based in the FP&A team. The Directorate leads on financial strategy, planning, internal management reporting and compliance reporting to our regulators, analysis and modelling.

**About the role**:
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on UCL’s financial strategy, regularly reviewing the newly agreed strategic approach for the University and ensuring that the financial strategy continues to align with and support UCL’s Strategy and strategic plan. The post-holder will work closely with the Head of Financial Planning and the Directors for FP&A to embed the financial strategy, support its ongoing communication with key stakeholders including academic colleagues, and ensure that the Financial Strategy shapes the future financial plans of the University. This is a high-profile role which will involve significant engagement with University Management Committee members including the Provost, CFO, Vice President Strategy and Vice President Operations, as well as academic and Professional Services colleagues across the University.

The post-holder will work closely with UCL’s Planning function to integrate strategic and financial planning and will play a leading role in supporting the implementation and realisation of Financial Sustainability activity through the development and delivery of multi-year budgets from 2023/24. The role will lead on horizon scanning to inform the future shape of UCL’s financial strategy and define its requirements. The post-holder will lead work to ensure alignment of both Operating and Capital expenditure to strategic priorities, including developing an approach to any future cost reduction activity. The post-holder will have strong leadership and engagement skills.

The Financial Strategy team is new and the post-holder will be required to establish and lead their team with clarity and confidence, as well as playing a key leadership role within both FP&A and the wider Finance Division. The post holder will have excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to use analysis to inform and shape narratives for communication with a wide audience. The role requires the ability to build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders from across UCL, as well as across finance division.

**About you**:
You will be a fully qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience or demonstrable experience in a planning or finance role with successful experience leading the development of financial strategy in a complex environment.

You'll have a track record of financial leadership and managing teams and current knowledge of the funding environment for research and teaching.

Previous experience of working in an HE institution is desirable but not essential.

You'll be a capable and credible finance professional, comfortable with leading, operating and influencing at senior management level and be able to demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills.
